It is pretty crazy superman ain't crossed a billion yet. Maybe he been around too long.
If you adjust for inflation, Superman (1978) would be a billion dollar movie in 2025.

Anyway, the superheroes that have had a movie gross over a billion (not adjusted for inflation) are Batman, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Aquaman, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Deadpool (and Wolverine).

Aquaman and Captain Marvel having a movie gross a billy before Superman is crazy.

Captain marvel was all timing and I'll never understand how Aquaman hit that mark. Lol

It was also timing, literally came out a several months before captain marvel.
The marvel stimulus affected all superhero movies not just CM. Both movies came out right after Infinity war when people were peak fiend status for another big blockbuster,
Casuals aren't distinguishing between marvel and dc like that

Yeah, Captain Marvel was mostly hype for Avengers: Endgame.

I think Aquaman grossed a billion because of Jason Momoa making Aquaman look "cool" and international audiences seem to love water-based films (especially China). For example, the Avatar films make bank at the box office internationally.

Anyway, 71% of Aquaman's box office came internationally (outside of the US/Canada). Aquaman grossed over $800 million internationally, and almost $300 million of that came from China alone.

I disagree. 'Aquaman' did a billion. 'Captain Marvel' did a billion. An R-rated 'Joker' movie with zero ties to Batman did a billion as well.

Fast-forward to now and all of those sequels pretty much flopped and even movies that are considered to be "ok" or decent are doing like $400M tops.

'Captain America' just did $400M and that used to be a billion dollar franchise as well. Comic book movies have been a harder sell lately... I don't think it can be disputed.

I also think the quality for a lot of them has dropped off too so that doesn't help matters.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean much (in context).

*Captain America: Brave New World was the first Cap movie in almost a decade with a new actor in the role.

*Anthony Mackie doesn't have the charisma and leading-man aura of Chris Evans.

*The only Captain America to gross a billion was Civil War (which was basically a pseudo-Avengers movie).

Anyway, if Captain America: Brave New World was about Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) returning to the role, I can guarantee that it would've made way more than $400 million.

But that goes back to nostalgia. I said in my previous post that nostalgia sells. "New" shyt is a harder sell. That's why the new movie only did around $400M

And this new 'Superman' is not going to have an easy time selling either because it's all new, cast/crew/director/universe etc... there have been many iterations of the character so you have to give people something fresh, a fresh take on the character. I think James Gunn might have accomplished that but only time will tell.

Brave New World only grossed $400 million because it was just average AND trying to follow up the events of a largely forgotten movie from 2008.

Superman (2025) so far has generated a lot of buzz and excitement online. It generally has gotten more buzz than FF: First Steps. Obviously, that doesn't guarantee it will be a hit at the box office, but I would be very surprised if Superman isn't the highest (or second highest) grossing superhero movie of the year.

I hear you.... I hope it's good and it does well, I just don't think it's a "slam dunk" like some were saying. I watch most of these anyway. I'll be there for 'Superman' I think it looks great from the trailers. You can see the 'All-Star Superman' influence on screen, it's like it's ripped directly from the comics

Also... those practical robots are fire

Tops out at 650 as this is a lighter tone version of Supes compared to Synder's, which is equivalent to Superman Returns which did around that...

American Boy Scout Supes hasn't worked since Chris Reeves was alive....

The secret to a billion used to be China. Hollywood movies don't typically breakthrough in China anymore, some don't get released in China because of a variety of reasons and others have limited releases, etc.. I can't remember the last time a Hollywood movie ran up the score in China. It's rare these days.

So what used to be a "billion" for a movie is now like $700-$800 million. It's made some movies less profitable because the cost of making big blockbusters hasn't gone down, it's actually gone up. The profit margins are all fukked up.

Hollywood needs to find more ways to lessen the cost of films but it's tough because CGI or building practical sets and stunts, etc. all of it cost money. Disney was getting away with fukking over VFX artists for a while but now they can't. Some studios stopped working for them.

When a movie clears a billion now it's a much rarer feat.

:mjpls:TAKE RACIST CHINA AWAY
AND BLACK PANTHER STILL
DOES 1.25 BILLION
