Guns writing and Fillions charisma makes Guy a loveable a$$hole. He really shouldn't have been this liked they killed it with his character

The biggest problem with this movie is that it makes alot of assumptions of its audience. The people I've talked to who were lost aren't familiar with DC. It doesn't bother me personally because I know DC lore up until the last universe reset. It assumes you know:
Who Superman is (obvious).
His relationship with Lois (obvious).
How close Superman is to his parents.
Who the green lanterns are.
What metahumans are.
How the various nations feel about Superman.
Why Lex and Superman's beef is almost entirely one way.
How big of a petty bytch Lex can be.
Just how intelligent Lex and Mr. Terrific are compared to all but like 3 people on Earth.
How much Superman wants to be liked and accepted by others (which is a large part of why he doesn't "kill" people, Snydersexuals).
Superman has a cousin.
Alot of the ^ was answered in the last 30 mins which is weird.
I know this wasn't supposed to be an origin story but this felt like the second half, of a sequel. I personally don't mind but I wouldn't start a new franchise this way.

To be fair, many of the things you brought up will be explored in future DCU projects.
However, at the same time, I do agree that the movie should've given more attention to certain things.

The shifts in tone are jarring.
Started good. First action scne is fun. I see its gonna be extra with the quirky jokes
But luthor kills every scene. If it wasnt for him …. Zzzz
Then a ten minute scene with lois and clark interviewing that just kills momentum
It builds back up, and throwaway scne/joke with “shrimp toes”. 3 unfunny scenes to show jimmy gets bytches? 35 min alone on newscrew sneakin the info out that could been accomplished in one. 3 scenes of pretty girl beggin to a basic guys annoyance. This is a stnd in for gunn irl
Supermans parents exposed , theres a giant fight in background taking away any seriousness. “Oh they got it”. This is superman? What version are people talking about?
Supes earth parents treated as yokels for a laugh. Couodnt even give pa kent diginity, it starts off with burritos talk and supes not liking his parents lmao… wtf
Oh… sex harem??? More weirdo gunn stuff. It dropped almosy immediately snd everyone loves him again.
The garage door scene? Thats sposed to be funny?
Holding onto the baby, getting sucked in black hole .. for a dog lick joke
Dog saved supes 5x. Like the same setup 5 straight times.
Be human speech snd hulk/loki bite?
Lex planned a war to kill supes. Has kyrptonite. Doesny kill supes. Kills random food vendor. And supes tries to hit him with a guilt trip for the final showdown? And then the dog does it?
Supergirl drunk “bytch!”
This is gunns problem. He does shyt cuz he can. Guy gardner isny in this movie because he had cool story. Its cause he has a bowl cut snd curses. This is cheap comedy. Paint by numbers film 5-6 same thing over snd over.
If the first half was like the last half .. maybe. But beginning is way too jokey and ruins the ends setup
Like i wanna like this. Reminds me of the cartoons but idk its going too far, into camp territory, i feel like its stringing in cw dc scenes. Takes hr and half for an ounce of seriousness that lasts more then 30 seconds without a cheap joke following.
F4 wasnt perfect but that nailed the nostalgia and light comedy, family, old marvel comic, something new feel. It was coherent.
TLDR : this is the wrong tone for superman. Guardians and suicide squad sure. Superman? NOPE

I'll be honest, I really didn't like how kripto had to destroy the cameras so superman could beat ultraman. It was obvious lex was predicting superman's movements, and I was expecting superman to eventually adapt and start fighting more reactively but that never happens.Ultraman is a clone of Superman
Also, having cameras set up everywhere to anticipate Superman's moves is 100% cheating.
Instead of having kripto come to the rescue for the 4th time, they should’ve had superman take the cameras out one at a time while fighting defensively once he figured out how lex was feeding information to ultraman.

gunn says he loves animals ... and loves putting them in his movies.
that's cool for something off-beat like the guardians but not supes .. and esp. not batman.
saying that the dog was funny at times. and that last woof-down was hilarious
.gunn is good for sci-fi / space stuff but is not ideal to head a cinematic universe. his vision isn't broad enough and lacks variety.
hopefully he has help on the creative side.
