So the tweet posted here last week that projected a $640m-680m finish was bogus? Because the math don’t seem to be mathing.

Appears it’ll finish right at or just short of 600m. F4 may finish sub 500m. Both results will make for some interesting discourse
They both lost to Jurassic World and 2 movies went a billion in past 3 months. I think there is more to be said about “people aren’t going to the movies anymore” cause I’m starting to think that’s also a bit bogus lol

Well, Lilo & Stitch and Minecraft are kids movies that are based on popular brands. It's not surprising that they made a billion (or close to it in Minecraft's case). Parents are going to take their kids to see those movies.

The Minecraft video game is popular with kids and is the best selling video game of all-time. Lilo & Stitch also has nostalgia going for it as the kids who grew up watching the original movie are now adults (some with kids of their own).

The previous Jurassic movies made billions, so it's not a surprise that Rebirth made good money. People love dinosaurs. It's simple as that.

Superman and Fantastic Four don't have the same crutches to rely on as those other movies.

Superman is a tricky case. He's the most-well known superhero but in current times, not the most popular. Spider-Man and Batman are WAY more popular with kids today than Superman.

The MCU has also made many Marvel heroes (Iron Man, Steve Rogers Captain America, Black Panther, Thor, etc) more popular with kids today than Superman :manny:

my 9 year old nephew chose us to go see FF over Superman when i visited 2 weeks ago. He said the trailer seemed not as interesting. He knows the characters a little bit probably superman more, and I've gifted him Death of Superman, and all star superman before (he reads a lot of comics, and has never had an FF book).

Thats one instance but I don't think superman is that hot in the streets for kids, which is likely why Krypto was so pushed in the film

Ironman was NEVER a household name back in 2008 and was MADE popular by Marvel creating the film

The mainstream popularity from Marvel were Spider-Man and X-Men. Marvel had taken a gamble on making Iron Man and the charater has become widely popular today because of RDJ and that movie's box office success.

Superman had a chance to become a more popular character today (espcially since people already enjoyed Cavill as Superman) so this was an opportunity for Cornsweat to pick up where that popularity left off. I dont blame Cornsweat at all and hes actually a great representation (if not better than Cavill) but to say this film's success is based on popularity of character is a stretch.

And Superman 2025 did what was needed. The box office result is decent (though not amazing - mostly because of Asian audiences).

The movie has received mostly positive reviews and has many people excited for the future of the DCU. Just because the movie didn't make $800-900+ million dollars doesn't mean it wasn't successful.
