Nah my whole point was 'Batman Begins' made a decent amount but didn't break records or anything because it was the first installment of a new series of a character that's been done a bunch of times.

You see it happened with 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' as well where it did pretty good but not record breaking.

These characters have all been done a million times so you need to build something up for it to really resonate. I expect this will do alright but it's not setup to smash box office records.

Those reports were just first day Fandango numbers, it won't mean much on what the actual opening weekend is
I misread your post bruh. My bad. But i agree for the most part but..

I feel this one is getting more hype because it looks different than the Snyder flicks. Looks more cartoony, has a super dog. Will it hit a billion? I dont think so. But could come close depending on word of mouth.

This film will likely gross around 700-850 million dollars.

If it grosses less than that, it would be a flop.

If it grosses more than that (especially if it reaches a billion), then obviously it would be a MASSIVE success.

The secret to a billion used to be China. Hollywood movies don't typically breakthrough in China anymore, some don't get released in China because of a variety of reasons and others have limited releases, etc.. I can't remember the last time a Hollywood movie ran up the score in China. It's rare these days.

So what used to be a "billion" for a movie is now like $700-$800 million. It's made some movies less profitable because the cost of making big blockbusters hasn't gone down, it's actually gone up. The profit margins are all fukked up.

Hollywood needs to find more ways to lessen the cost of films but it's tough because CGI or building practical sets and stunts, etc. all of it cost money. Disney was getting away with fukking over VFX artists for a while but now they can't. Some studios stopped working for them.

When a movie clears a billion now it's a much rarer feat.

Superman was granted a Chinese release, but I don't think that it will do well in China. Superman is probably "too American" for a Chinese audience. Also, Chinese people seem to love films that are water-based (like Avatar and Aquaman), and Superman isn't that.

Superman making a billion will depend on how well it does in Latin America and Europe.

The box office is different now than it was then. Even with inflation, less people going to the theaters overall and losing a lot of money from China.
Add to that the snyder verse poisoning the well for DC. Then Jurassic World/Smurfs/F4 may eat out some earnings with all that overlap.

With that said this movie releasing in China. If It has good WOM I think it can do 600M+

Only ten movies have grossed a billion since COVID. So that's the last six years.... Some were highly anticipated sequels like 'Inside Out 2' and 'Avatar 2' Some were event movies that took over pop culture like 'Barbie' and some were nostalgia like 'Top Gun: Maverick' and 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'

The days of every comic book movie grossing a billion are over.

year by year

4 - 5 was a good year (above norm) in every year bar 2019.

i.e. there was never a time when every comic book movie even came close to 1bn.

2019 was an exception.

Superman isn't doing a billion it's just not realistic. If it can do 700ms I'd consider that a success but it's critically that matters more.

I'd be impressed if it did 700m.

There's being famous and there's however you encapsulate being viral/trendy/hip (some of that is the person himself, some is the times they're in). i.e. Usher is top tier famous but that don't mean an Usher album in 2025 will go diamond like it did 25 years ago.

Everyone knows who Superman is, we just have to see how much 13 year-olds around the globe actually care in 2025. If they care to the tune of 650-700m in this somewhat post-renaissance era of comic book movies (an era that DC came away looking like failures), that'll be promising for them moving forward.

There was never any days where every or almost every comic book movie was grossing a billion (except for 2019 which was a unique year).

Nah, 700 million is not "impressive" for Superman. That's right about as expected (at least, in my estimation).

Grossing less than 700 million would be a disappointment.

"Impressive" would be Superman grossing more than 850 million.
