Some people have no clue how box office works. 'The Amazing Spider-Man' coming off a trilogy of movies was a hard sell for moviegoers because there were so many iterations that had already come before the newest movie.
Fast-Forward to 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' and this was in the midst of the MCU at the absolute peak and that also became a hard sell. It did well but it didn't crack a billion dollars when a lot of comic book movies were.
...And Spider-Man is a more popular character than Superman is. People have no idea what they are talking about

Yes you can say some may be capping in case it underperforms, but some nikkas is putting expectations on this movie that has never been a billion dollar franchise in the modern box office. Yall would have a point if the last superman movies hit a billi or close to it. If this makes 600M, it's a success. If it's 400M, it's a bomb. It has to get good WOM/rave reviews if it bombs.

Difference being the current climate for superhero movies is weaker than the past. And Deadpool made that of his third movie not the first. Hopefully this movie exceeds all expectation as I want to see where Gunn takes things with full creative control.
I have seen the discourse on Reddit and Snyder fans are crazy. They are acting like if this movie doesn’t get a 90% Rotten tomatoes score and make a billion $ then it’s a failure. Deadpool wasn't just the third movie in a beloved franchise, it brought in Wolverine one of the most popular characters in comics especially since the 1990's and Hugh Jackman who was also beloved. Wildly dumb comparisons

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a franchise that has been around in films for decades to do better than Deadpool who some were saying sucked and had no momentum because marvel was in a death spiral anyway

Good point. They been pimping that dog crazy. This is a family friendly summer outing with the most well known superhero in the world going back decades. Pockets should be shaking, if the interest is there.

It is unreasonable if you only looking at it from a surface level of "Superman is well known IP so should be a billion". If it was that simple, every movie based on a huge IP would be a billion. Superman hasnt been top selling movie franchise since Reeves, Hell he couldnt even beat Wonder Woman BO. If you was in the superman threads when snyder had it or the supermans before then saying this IP stuff about it should be a billion, then cool, least you keeping it consistent.
Only idiots said Deadpool had no momentum, hell the fact that Disney acquired Fox/Deadpool made more ppl interesting in dead pool to see if Disney would fukk with it. On top of it having crazy cameos or ppl like blade and other heroes.
Superman is the most well-known superhero in the world but NOT the most popular, liked, and profitable.
Spider-Man and Batman are above Supes in those latter regards.
