when they had the board with the Lex conspiracy on and all the evidence was sexy selfies she se to Jimmy :russ:

Most realistic thing in this Comic book movie is a plot and empire crumbling by a broad!

Good movie with a lot going on but superman was my least favorite character of the movie because of how weak he was. I didnt see an epic shot or action scene like the first flight in MOS or the fight scenes with Zod’s goons. Not only was he weak but he couldnt fight and needed the others for help when it should be the other way around.

I know him being overpowered was a problem in the Snyderverse but that was the suits fault for trying to make batman a threat. Luthor was a great villain and mr terrific was dope too. Maybe Imax would make me give it a higher score but im not going to see this again til it hits streaming

Saw it earlier and i fukk with it. Gunn understands the character.

-There are moments where you really do think superman could die or be permanently injured. I liked it because nobody wants to watch a movie with a character that can't lose. The stakes are too low to care or be invested in the outcome. This is one of the biggest problems superman has. He's got an absurd amount of powers and only a couple of weaknesses. Part of why people like characters like batman or spiderman is because they could be killed and do get into situations where that's possible. It adds tension.

-the action choreography was dope. The camera work was excellent and my only issue is we didn't get MORE action. What was there though was good.

-I'll keep it real i don't give a fukk about his relationship with lois.

-its not a movie you could bring kids too. Theres a surprising amount of cursing in it, but I like that superman doesn't cuss.

-Nicolas hoult was a great luthor. If anything, they made him look far better than the moron tech bros we have in real life. He's able to articulate his motivation and he really does genuinely seem not only envious of, but afraid of superman. Loved the contrast of lex wanting to be more than human and be treated like some kind of king or god whilst Clark literally just wants to keep people safe and wants to be a good guy. He clearly was inspired by Christopher reeves version of the character.

-subtle shade at Israel? Talking about the nation that's america's ally that was about to invade and murder a country that has no international support and is clearly poor.

Not only does it look cheap but it looks like they used the same set where Lex's pocket dimension was.

Saw this tonight and overall really enjoyed it :ehh: . I thought they did a good job of depicting a lot of qualities that makes Superman who he is and did a good job of getting into the action. Some things I hadn't seen before on the big screen like the
Pocket dimension and Lex using the fighting commands to battle Superman with his team.

Good dynamic between between Lois/Clark and some nice save shots.

If you think you're lonely now, ohhh girl...
I feel like this script needed another 3/4 re-writes. I gave this a 5.5 or 6, but there’s a great movie in here somewhere. Gunn isn’t a talented enough writer to pull off a whole Superman script and produce a great film. Generally, I think Gunn is overrated as an auteur. He has one good/great movie in my opinion.

I don’t like GOTG II and III, I don’t like Peacemaker (not my style of humor) and I think his Suicide Squad movie is about on the same level as the Will Smith joint. The latter was panned because it came out during the pinnacle of hype and fawning over Marvel related products. I’ll put it this way: the first Suicide Squad >>> Ant-Man and Wasp but critics were not shytting on Marvel films in that era, but I digress.

I keep coming back to something GRRM said. New adaptations always change the story in some meaningful ways, in an effort to make it better, but never actually do. They just make it worse. Gunn’s idea of creating emotional tension is making Supes’ parents dikkheads :snoop:. I don’t know, I think exploring the dynamic of being the strongest individual on a planet where cruelty is often conflated with strength would be highly compelling emotionally.

Additionally, this Superman actually does not do enough. We don’t see him do enough to help the helpless on-screen. I’m not talking squirrels or kaiju concern. It’s not just superhuman ability in terms of Superman. You have to establish superhuman concern. That’s what the first two Superman movies do so well. My favorite Superman scene has always been from part II, the Donnor cut. “There’s no one else to help them now. The people of the world :wow:.”

This movie needed a montage: deadass. I’m a Superman Stan and by the time they were doing that nano attack, I didn’t feel anything. Gunn hadn’t done enough to really make your care for the character. Superman has super hearing right? Put the nano attack at the same time the war is about to pop off and Superman hears the kids calling for him before his face/ears are covered. Show some cool pinpointing/echolocation shyt using his hearing. He knows where it’s coming from. He’s crawling, struggling, etc. to try to get to them. He’s not just trying to survive for himself, but clamoring to help others. When he doesn’t show up, and others do in his place, it feels more earned. It’s stuff like that that are huge misses with this film in terms of Superman, Superman iconography, etc.

Beyond that, Gunn is just not like that. Man, I should’ve been a director. I thought about going to FSU’s film school, but film school doesn’t workout for most, so I decided against it. However, the movies the majority of these mofos put out, on my momma, I’d make significantly better films. Oh yeah, N.H. did his thing. The way he said dim-wit (or something he said like that), rolled so smoothly off the tongue :dame:. It’s just how animated Lex be talking shyt.

He wasn’t weak he was concerned above saving people first and foremost. His feats are arguably the strongest shown on film.

Zack Snyder’s Superman didn’t care if he was being slammed into a building full of people or throwing a locomotive into a Denny’s so he “looks” stronger.

There were multiple times where Superman got serious and handled business.
