I believe folks should vote in every election, but you setting folks up for major disappointment if you think voting blue automatically means a left court. Only Republicans deliver radicals for their base on the court. Remember Black folks showed up in big numbers for Obama twice, giving him multiple picks on the bench, and we still got swept 9-0 with his judges joining conservatives in that Byron Allen Comcast cast

The only way "We got to vote for the judges" becomes an effective rallying cry, is if Democratic politicians and voters gets some toughness in them and demand the appointment of true off the wall liberals, no moderates. And well that ain't happening on either fronts.

Exactly. The court is majority conservative. Biden and the dems know whats gonna happen with every case that goes there cause of this and they know how to fix it. Pack the court which they can do and nothing is stopping them. But they are sitting on their hands and refuse to do so while a conservative court is about to take up some of the most important cases in decades.

You don’t have many alternatives but to get involved.

elections will happen with or without you and id rather they happen WITH me.

local judges get promoted up through the ranks and stuff like this happens when we neglect the process from progressive law student organizations all the way up to initiatives that select for what we want our leaders to do.

plus a lot of the civil rights precedent we take for granted isn’t legally binding. Much of it came through court cases, NOT laws being passed.

In other words we can, and often, go back in time to a worse place. Look at what happened after Reconstruction.

There’s always a risk. Dems (Harry Reid) got rid of the filibuster then McConnell used it against us to the point when we screamed “uncle” just to get them to stop. The goal is to enact something we can benefit from under the rules without them using it against us at a later date.

I dont even know how to fix the qualified immunity situation.

Cops get sent into crazy situations and SOMETIMES shyt happens. I don't know how to give them "leeway during emergencies"...while still saying "don't cross [insert violation] line or else you're criminally liable"... hell, i dont even know how qualified immunity is a "thing" considering cops CAN be indicted.
