There’s always a risk. Dems (Harry Reid) got rid of the filibuster then McConnell used it against us to the point when we screamed “uncle” just to get them to stop. The goal is to enact something we can benefit from under the rules without them using it against us at a later date.

There wont be a later date if they continue to lose today. They need to worry about whats directly in front of them .

You don’t have many alternatives but to get involved.

elections will happen with or without you and id rather they happen WITH me.

local judges get promoted up through the ranks and stuff like this happens when we neglect the process from progressive law student organizations all the way up to initiatives that select for what we want our leaders to do.

plus a lot of the civil rights precedent we take for granted isn’t legally binding. Much of it came through court cases, NOT laws being passed.

In other words we can, and often, go back in time to a worse place. Look at what happened after Reconstruction.

Agreed. I make it a point to get involved with my local elections. That's what will truly affect me and mine.
I live in PG County but I'm keeping my eye on that VA race...I love your CRT thread, and usually read whatever new ish you post in there...wild ish going on in this country

Dems are too fukking spineless to make any major changes. They also like having the Conservative SC as a convenient excuse why they can't deliver the policies the Dem base wants.

This shyt is inexcusable. They are corporate sellouts. They will cause low voter turnout by not delivering what the base wants.

Yeah that's kind of the point. American 'liberals' would be considered conservatives in many other countries. Dems and Republicans have the same goals but different methods. They're really just arguing about how best to entrench corporate power

That's a major point that people keep overlooking when they mentioned packing the courts and adding additional justices. If that's the logic that people want to go by, then the courts would keep getting packed until the end of time.

bu bu but, obstaining from voting has been so successful for us so far. i mean, look how hard republicans are trying to earn our votes back.:patrice: okay thats, different. but both sides are same so surely if we do it to democrats we will have the ...same..result? wait, do we want that? Why do people who think both sides are the same, think the result will be different if we stop voting for democrats?

Democrats will listen to arguments on qualified immunity. Republicans will attack you for raising the idea. If you can’t see the difference you weren’t interested in fixing anything.

The only Supreme Court Justice that even wants to LOOK at Qualified Immunity is Clarence Thomas. Every year or two he writes a dissent about a Qualified Immunity case and no one else on the supreme court even joins his dissent, even if it's a non-majority opinion. 8-1 with even RBG/Sotomayor supporting Qualified Immunity. https://www.courthousenews.com/justice-thomas-calls-for-supreme-court-to-review-qualified-immunity/
The Supreme Court opted not to hear a case on qualified immunity Monday, drawing sharp criticism from Justice Clarence Thomas, who holds strong doubts about shielding police from civil lawsuits over the use of excessive force.

Even the liberal cac's won't touch that issue with a 10-foot pole.
