Y'all forgot. Doakes was in the military and ran into psychos all the time. That's why Dexter was so easy for him to point out. He knew something was up with Dexter, but never had proof. (That is until season 2).

Doakes is still the best character the show has had besides The Trinity Killer.

Edit: Am I the only one that thinks dude would make a perfect John Stewart in a Green Lantern movie?

The show low key started to fall off when he died. All the other characters were just lame pushovers for dexter.

:wtf:

Trinity had Dexter shook and murked his wife. I understand Doakes has a lot of fans but let's not go crazy here.

Trinity was just the Big Villian for That single season. He wasn't ever going to a regular character like Doakes was in seasons 1-2. I'm talking about regulars like Batista, Deb, Lame ass Quinn etc. In order for Dexter to not fall off he needed a competant rival to keep him on his toes thru most of the series. After Doakes died they never had anyone to challenge Dexter that was as strong as Doakes

I feel you but that's not feasible. It's easy to say they should've kept Doakes around, because we seen the show without him....but how could they stretch that out for more than 2 seasons, without making Doakes look incompetent....or without it becoming blatantly obvious that Dexter wasn't gonna get caught, which would neutralize Doakes as a threat anyway?

The show ran too long, period. If you kill off Doakes then run 2 more seasons, I doubt this is a problem. They killed the best on-going antagonist Dexter had, then let Dexter run virtually unopposed for 6 more seasons.
