I love Dirk vs KG threads because we ALL know both players had a different skill set and were relied on for diff things and yet we STILL dont give a fukk and will debate them two all day lol

Kg averaged more points, rebounds, assist, blocks, steal than ray Allen in 08 facts and only averaged one less point than Paul

 Nah dudes wanna play stupid. We all know dirk had much better teams. So dudes like to play and act like they was on the same playoff field. Kg literally had to check Wings in shyt in his prime and still try and carry a team offensively with nobody who could score around him. Not even shooters around him, Troy Hudson was the best shooter he probably had and he was trash and couldn't stay on the court.

Breh dirk lost in the first round 8 times with a owner who spends money like water and an owner who always looked out for dude...:mjlol:

A dude who never had to defend the best scoring option at PF or Center. And a dude who even at 7 Ft was never required to be the best rebounder or banger on the team....:mjlol:
Yet still went up against and beat his fellow elite contemporaries at his position out West like Timmy, CWebb, Karl Malone, Pau, Rasheed

shyt KG never came close to doing :mjlol:

Swept KG in the playoffs too :mjlol:

Dirk had prime Tyson Chandler, exiting prime Jason Terry, and a very serviceable Shawn Marion, Kidd, and Peja.

Dirk did not carry that team by himself. He had at least two other HOF talents turning in some of their best performances late that season.

The system was designed around Dirk. P&R ball-handler to maximize his shooting, plus wings in Terry, Stevenson, Butler (who went down), and Peja who could shoot. Length in Marion/Chandler on defense. It was an expertly constructed team and Carlisle was the right guy to call the shots.

2010-2011 Dallas team was not a fluke. 2011-2012 Miami probably beats them, but I would have expected that series to go 6 or 7 rather than the pants-shytting OKC provided.

Switch KG with Dirk and obviously that team doesn't work.

Both are Hall of Famers and in their prime were dominant, so I wouldn't expect both of their franchises to drop off significantly. But I think a prime KG would be more likely to help the Mavs win a ring than Dirk helping Minnesota winning a championship.

It really comes down to the fact KG was the more complete player and was elite on both sides of the court in his prime...

Kevin was not aggressive enough and was another guy who shied from the moment ala Chris Webber

how do dirk and Garnett's careers play out?

How much better or worse would the mavs be?

How much better or worse would the wolves have been?

Assume dirk gets traded to the Celtics with ray Allen also.
If KG had been blessed to play for the Mavericks organization instead of that cesspool he was drafted into, we'd be looking at him in the same view as Kobe and Duncan as the possible best player of his generation. KG with Steve Nash and Michael Finley? KG later in his career being surrounded by the veterans Dirk had when he won the title?

Mark Cuban and Don/Donnie Nelson and Rick Carlisle and Avery Johnson and everyone else in that organization Dirk got to play under did everything within their power to surround Dirk with good to great players who could hide every weakness he had. That is so underrated and something people love to ignore. All of these clowns like to say that Dirk "carried" them to a title, or that he didn't have any All-Star teammates, while conveniently ignoring the fact that every player on his team covered his weaknesses so ALL Dirk had to do was chuck up shots to his heart's content because everyone else did the dirty work that the wasn't capable of doing.

Dirk never had to become a good defender. Dirk never had to become a particularly good rebounder. Dirk never had to block shots. Dirk never had to become any type of real playmaker. Dirk never had to make his teammates better. Dirk never had to learn to contain point guards in the pick-and-roll. The only improvement Dirk was ever really forced to do was learn to play with his back to the basket more. KG was on teams where he had to do EVERYTHING; I still remember the year they went to the WCF in Minnesota Garnett having to bring the ball up the court because the back up point guard once Cassell went down were trash.

Mavericks dont win in 2011 with KG instead of Dirk....

the 2011 mavs would be built differently around KG than with dirk, seeing that dirk was a more aggressive scorer, plus he was still sort of in his prime.

but thru most of their careers, KG was better, and he prolly wouldn't go to boston, because he would've already won a ring or two with one of the old mavs teams.

dirk is overrated. dude played on stacked teams almost his whole career, and has one sneak-ring to show for it, and gets way too much credit for it. there were nba starters on I.R. on that 2011 team.

the '08 Celtics win the chip regardless of if its KG or dirk at the 4.

Philly
THOSE NASH/FINLEY MAVS TEAMS
WOULD HAVE GOTTEN ATLEAST 1 TITLE
WITH KG MANNING THE DEFENSE.
HE WOULDNT HAVE HAD THE PRESSURE OF CARRYING THE OFFENSE..
SIMILAR TO BOSTON
BUT HE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN HIS PRIME.

DALLAS WAS ALWAYS FULL OF OFFENSIVE TALENT
BUT DIDNT GET A RING TIL THEY SURROUNDED DIRK WITH DEFENSIVE GUYS.

WOLVES WOULD HAVE BEEN EVEN WORSE WITH DIRK,
THOSE SAME PIECES BEFORE SPREE/CASSELL
AND NO DEFENSE.

One had a HOF coach, the other didnt.

One had a HOF supporting cast, the other didnt.

One had HOF David Robinson as a mentor, the other didnt

so you're saying pop was a hof Coach when Duncan got drafted? he was a rookie coach who took a team to the lottery before Duncan got there. They grew up together basically.

There was no magical playbook or system that pop pulled out to beat other teams. He just had the right unselfish superstar to help create a winning culture.

If it was so easy to replace Duncan with another big man in pops "system" then Aldridge would be an MVP candidate right now.
