I loved him in Minnesota but KG cant carry a team like Dirk would so i doubt any team with KG that doesnt have another clutch performer (ala Pierce and Allen types) makes it far.

Many people forget that then in Minnesota Garnett was always criticized for disappearing in 4th quarters. Like homie didnt want the ball in the 4th, period. Thus why the team never went far until he got Cassell and Sprewell that one year and they made it all the way to the WCF.

When Garnett got to Boston he relinquished having to carry a team and was just one of the core players and basically played well enought to be al star level and then handed the keys to Paul Pierce in the 4th.

Dirk has always been the type to take over games offensively even in his early years.

You can't carry a team on the defensive end?
you can.... But KG ain't that dominant of a defender either. Good/great defender? Yes. Dominant????? Please...

There is no denying that KG is a better defender that Dirk. Much better. But again, KG aint that dude that can take over a game in the fourth nor is he carrying a team through defense on some Ben Wallace/Rodman type neither. He's a good defensive anchor. But ain't no fearsome dominant defender

People on here will NEVER admit this. We have had these threads for damn near a decade already.

KG wasn't a player to build around simply because of this fact. He was a GREAT sidekick though.

Bottom line is KG was a great player and sure shot hall-of-famer but he is more of a Scottie Pippen than a Michael Jordan.

I called him the ultimate sidekick and that thread had SOHH in flames and was a topic to be discussed even post Timberwolves.

Once this was confirmed in Boston there was no going back. I've yet to see anyone really put up a competitive argument to counter it. Think of all the legit #1 options in nba history. Can you name a single one in where in any scenario they really couldn't be counted on for a bucket or break down the defense to set a play as the ball handler? I can't think of it and that's the very definition of a #1 for me.

If you can't count on your #1 player on offense when it matters then you have a serious problem. It doesn't matter if you are the most versatile player in the world if your offense fades into inefficient midrange jumpers time and time again.

Want to bring up guards who couldn't really shoot well? Guess what they are distributing and running the offense and KG was definitely not that.

Back then it was mostly Duncan vs KG, but eventually KG stans knew they could not win that battle after the Celtics run. Now it's a "what if" scenario with Dirk and disrespectful to a legit #1 who dominated on offense in the playoffs year after year.

but if they swapped places, Dirk coulda averaged 40 a night and still lost because Dirk was inferior to KG in almost every other facet and on that team, he would have had to kick out to the same players that let KG down. People got on KG because they wanted him to take over games since nobody trusted anyone else on that team. That was a problem Dirk never had in Dallas and KG damn sure wouldn't have had in Dallas. shyt, with Finley and Nash, KG coulda averaged 23/12/7 light.

As I said before about KG, he made the worst franchise the league has ever seen look good. No one has done it before him. No one will do it after him. Nobody alive would have had the cojones to try.
