Imo, Paid in full, SOC, No one can do it better, 3 feet and rising, it takes a nation..,grip it on that.. in that order.
Not in a historical context but in how it sounded when I heard them and how they sound today.
I feel that it often gets left out of discussions..

Bloodbath a little extreme lol, not like Face ain't a very credible/dope/legendary artist. I can see Jay winning, you could argue Jay was a bit more diverse in some areas and I wouldn't disagree with you what you said about RD but it I don't think it should be anyway near a bloodbath. I wouldn't be surprised if Face surpasses Jay even on my GOAT list eventually, even though I have Jay higher in my mind currently but his last album was very subpar, Face's last shyt was dope, so if that pattern continues Face could make up ground, we'll see....

Let me take my L. Bloodbath was the wrong term. I didn't mean that Hov should easily be taking this, I meant this should be hotly contested to where both sides draw blood. This should be one of the best individual matchup threads. Like Wu vs Bone in the group tournament. Or EPMD vs Bone (pre observe fukkery). I tagged the Hov stans cause I thought they would go straight to Beyonce and net worth - but they let me down.
What about Criminal Minded, Long Live The Kane, Strictly Business, the Great Adventures of Slick Rick, By All Means Nexessary, Critical Beatdown, Follow the Leader, road to the riches or unfinished business?

All classics but imo they don't sound as good as those albums I mentioned 25 years later.

I think Jay did more with the flows, this matters too cause it helps keep the music diverse if you can switch up the flows when relevant, storytelling they are both great when they do that, lyrics is a hard 1, probably Jay cause of what he did on RD etc, content is a hard 1 cause similar in a sense, Face has more hard/murderous/ type shyt, Jay has different shyt Face may not have. Voice would give it to Face, fly shyt Jay, wordplay Jay, punchlines Jay, Face ain't really that type of MC. It's a very hard 1 cause you are comparing contrasting MC's with differnet styles who are both very dope at what they do. My personal favourite is Face, objectively might be Jay ahead, for now, cause I think Deeply Rooted could be that ill shyt, and if Jay is doing a collab album with Beyoncé Face and others might start catching up to Jay to me personally.

Scarface in my top 10
Both solid emcees with long careers ..but JayZ was more versatile IMO and was able to connect with the street and mainstream over the course of his career better than any other emcee outside of BIG & Pac
