Stumbled upon 2 Patti Pies right as Walmart was setting them out on display. Got one for the apartment and one for my boy's family for Thanksgiving.

Patti's culinary skills are tearing black families apart. Them sweet potato pies got Big Mama an 'nem declaring jihad on anyone who brings them near the house. I heard tales about that "Over The Rainbow" mac n' cheese setting impossible standards that no other recipe can stand up to. A friend of the family made used that recipe instead of her own one Thanksgiving and got rave reviews. Like, really rave reviews. The kind of reviews that make you question why your culinary creations never got the fam that hype. So, she decided to go back to her own recipe for Christmas.

Friend's husband: "So you making Patti's mac n' cheese again, right"

Friend: "No, I'm using my own recipe."

Friend's husband: "Why?"

Friend: "What the hell you mean, why?!"

Making a great sweet potato pie is an art and a lot of people just can't do it. My grandmother had blessed hands in the kitchen, and the first year after she died we started looking for pies to replace hers at the holidays by buying pies from women in church. Maaaaaaan, that first year was rough! Pies were too sweet, too heavy, too bland, too spiced, you name it! So I see why people love Patti Pies if they've never had a great, homemade sweet potato pie.
