Wacky - if I had my mind made up about Juvenile I would have replied telling you to kick rocks...or I just would have ignored the list. I disagree with some of your choices, but its obvious you have an extensive knowledge of hip-hop and you're not just some kid who's been listening to hip-hop since 2010. The fact that you would put Juvenile at
#7 is wildly out of line with my assessment of him as an artist. That's why I asked you to put me on to some of his better songs (lyrically) and that I would check them out and let you know what I thought. So far, you haven't even been able to give me one song. That speaks volumes.
Juvenile has been on my radar since 98 when "Ha" dropped. I remember seeing the video on Rap City (I had recorded the episode b/c I was still in high school at the time). I was shocked my first time seeing it. I thought he was the worst rapper I'd ever heard and the production was a ss. I thought it was so bad that I took the video cassette to my friend's house (obviously, also some cats into hip-hop) just to make sure they had the opportunity to see it. I was sure I'd never hear anything else from Juvenile. They liked it (much to my chagrin) and Juve blew sky high. Now based on that - why would I listen to 400 degrees? And how is it ignorant to judge an artist off of their singles? Should I go check for Trinidad James' chit? Or can I just assume that he's wack based on that awful song until he releases a song that convinces me otherwise?
Getting back to Juve - from that point on...if their was a song that had Juve on it - I was either hearing it on the radio - seeing it on TV - or hearing it in the club. He (along with the rest of Cash $) was inescapable. So I've heard a lot of his stuff. None of it has impressed me (in terms of him as a rapper). At some point after Mama got A ss - he fell off - then he was on again with Nolia Clap and Slow Motion - then he fell off again. I'm talking in terms of his songs getting radio play nationwide (I'm from the Bay and have been in DC since 2002).
I know I'm not getting a Rakim/Pun/Nas/G Rap flow from him. I don't expect that. I don't expect that from Scarface even. But Face is one of the GOATs b/c he's lyrically dope in every other respect.
Also - the basis for the ranking of the list is confusing. At this point, I'm just assuming that it is largely based off your personal opinion.
