Worker abuse isn't exactly rampant over there. When you have a guaranteed income, big business has to make menial work attractive for you, rather than letting a bunch of who they see as replaceable grunts fighting for scraps. It's a "worker's job market" as opposed to an employer's (at least at the low-wage level.)

Well, again, the purpose of minimum wage is worker protection, particularly the most vulnerable ladder rung of workers. All these policies have the same ultimate goals- some kind of realistic safety net that guarantees a minimum quality of life for the average citizen. Maybe they aren't all needed simultaneously, but without minimum wage here, where the social safety net is compared to Switzerland, things would be worse. If we had a stronger safety net through other means, maybe we wouldn't need it either.

elaborate please.... I'm intrigued, cause I thought about this on and off, and I think it would be interesting and could possibly work..........I mean a law that liberterians and progressives can agree on has to at least catch your attention.....

Immigrants flooding in could definitely be a problem and the idea of do you get more money if you have kids is an issue too?? , but an experiment would be worth a try ....... its not like anything else is working, nor are any regulations taking place to control any of the financial craziness occurring right now ... so

but there should also be a bare minimum for people who dont contribute anything.

thats why you make it incentive based. those who want to work for more shall have more. those who want to do the minimum will have the minimum.

we should definitely try something like this in the US... cause like afro said whats the worst that can happen? i actually think we're currently in the worst-case scenario--an oppressive plutocracy with a really strong army and no moral code lol.. so it can only improve from here.
