Do I think they fukked up in how they handled the brand after it got bigger? Sure. But there's nothing wrong with selling and I'd argue the struggles Triller faces are evidence they made the right decision to sell high, rather than let this fade out. People are saying "turn it into a concert." Ok...where is the value in that. Why would most of the major artists agree to the reduced splits they'd get doing that, when they could just do their own tours. What you'd be left with is a tour full of second and third tier artists, and that's not particularly lucrative or valuable.

The problem is that people are outside. There are suddenly a million shows for people to go to. We aren't just packed at home, on the internet looking for something to watch. I think people gotta stop overthinking it and just accept that some ideas are good for specific moments. Speakeasies were very popular during prohibition. Once prohibition ended they disappeared. Why? Because people went to bars instead. Speakeasies came back during COVID when bars were closed and then disappeared the minute the quarantines ended. That's just how things go.

That argument doesn’t hold much weight when people still watched Verzuz matchups when restrictions were lifted

Not only that, but folks still talk about potential matchups all the time

We don’t know what might happen.

I’m just saying the appetite is still there.

Like everything in life, it depends on the bag.

And like the dude said, they could always pivot to a broader audience; they’ve had the NFL Verzuz, the Latino Verzuz etc etc
if theres such a big market then why arent other companies replicating this :heh:

people outside now

Just like Coach K and P sold Quality Control which has Lil Baby, Migos, City girls and more. They could tell business was slowing down. Outside of Baby, all the other acts suffering a decline and overall financially and sold it to avoid those losses. It was a smart decision. People only cared about Versus like that because of Corona lockdown, because people were unable to attend concerts. Big artist not trying to do that vs having they own shows where they make far more money. These guys have families to feed. Just like you would leave a black owned company if a white company offered even just $25,000 more. It’s easy to say they should have done this and that when you just a fan. This wasn’t a spur of the moment let’s sell out decision. They consulted with accountants, lawyers and all they consultants who more than likely all reviewed the finances and told them the time to sell is now, or they are going to lose money. You want them to lose money just to make you happy??

The year 3030
Unless we 're somehow getting George Clinton
this was supposedly on the table...per himself via rolling stone
Meanwhile, Clinton says a Verzuz episode is in the works for August, starring himself and his current touring version of Parliament-Funkadelic, as well as hip-hop artists who’ve sampled his work over the years. (A Verzuz spokesperson didn’t immediately reply to requests for comment.)

They could have pivoted versus to more performance based and removed the 20 song challenge. This would allow artist to get creative with play list and be able to make bracket style versus keep audience engaged by voting people to the next round. Also, make it a dollar to view a performance with celebrity engagement. The could’ve had i celebrity rooms to view the performance in and obviously ad spaces in those rooms.

But it seems the buyer finessed them.

This version of verzuz was a lockdown thing but they already pivoted to larger venues and stages and more of that was the next evolution. You're thinking small.
Yup. They took the short term change (that they’re not going to ever receive in full) instead of playing the long game.

This could’ve been a concert style series OR, if you don’t want to work as hard year round, a festival type event they could hold once a year with multiple battles. It could’ve become a real staple.

They killed their own brand before it could be fully realized because of an imaginary dollar figure.

The concept of verzuz was its best when it was organic IG live battles during lockdown, it became goofier the bigger it got. This is one case where it was smart to sell high.

You are crying about a fake rap battle and how it’s reflects poorly on all Black people.

And have the nerve to talk about immaturity.

You were probably wondering why the guys who jumped 69 didn’t get Zimmerman instead with your goofy ass.
