Based off what? Why do you believe this? Anytime a record is marketed to radio, then they want it to do good at radio. I'm listening MECCA % THE SOUL BROTHER right now, shyt is boring as fukk. Nice quality samples. But weak melodies, shyt's boring.
Hip hop was big business when Swizz came on the scene in 98. Cats were appealing to the lowest common denominator to cash in. He took advantage. His hair sounded good for the time, but didn't have legs. I was listening to Mecca today as well. shyt is amazing. If that's boring to you, I don't know what to say. We appreciate different things when it comes to hip hop.

nikkas make plenty excuses. Pete Rock is a farce. Bunch of boring ass jazz tunes. He should of asked swizz for help instead of hating.
Why? So he could sell out by copying Swizz' sound from the time and try to cash in on what was hot? Should he have made snap beats when D4l was hot? Should everyone just chase the latest fads? Or stick to what they do best and comes organically?

Is hip hop not art to you? If you think it's just a cash grab and you hold those who exploit it for gain in high regard - then Swizz definitely had much more commercial success. Getting play in clubs and the radio became lowest common denominator when Swizz came on the scene. Remember - D4L had a number one hit. Are they better then Pete rock too?
It is an art, yes. But when nikkas start excusing failure as it being real hiphop and discrediting people for having cross over success,it's corny to me. Swizz music is art also

Swizzle the most overrated producer in history of hip-hop. Gimme Mannie Fresh over him.

The top 5: premier, rza, dilla, organized noize, pete rock
You're top 5 aint shyt but dudes that cater to the so called NY sound. Shows close mindedness. Yes fresh is better than swizz but he's also better than your whole list

That's not responsive. Swizz had hits. Fast food for the most part. Pete had classic songs, remixes, and most importantly, albums. We're talking apples and oranges here.
Swizz has MORE classic songs than Pete and it's not even close in competition. Pete has zero classic albums. None of his album he produced, outdid flesh of my flesh or RR vol1.

I'll give you Nore. But it's questionable at that. The other records are not classics.
nikka please

Cassidy - I'm A Hustla
Nore - Banned From TV
Styles P - Holiday
Styles P - Good Times
DMX - Ruff Ryders Anthem
The bolded is the ONLY questionable one. nikka you been living in a cave or something?

Hits don't factor in much for me. Plus they are from different eras. Pete did make classic records/albums. He wins this easily.
So an opinion you pulled out your ass is more valuable than how a record actually performed in the streets. When i say hit,i', not just talking numbers. I remember what these records did to the people. Them pete songs are just songs YOU LIKE they meant and mean nothing. TROY was the shyt and a few others but his list of classic songs is shorter than swizz MUCH SHORTER

Failure in what?
Sure it's art. McDonalds is cuisine too.
Also, you didn't fully respond to my post.

Yeah - we just ain't never gonna see eye to eye. You like that artificial synth sound. Fresh is ass to me. Couple joints here and there of course - but the start of the ending for hip hop was Ha. fukking trash.

You saying the records are boring is your opinion.
X, Jay and The lox are hip hop. Those songs ain't classics. Have you listened to money Cash hoes and RR anthem lately? shyt aged terribly.
Flesh and RR one were wack to blah at best. I could care less what was more commercially popular. Or popular in general. Pete was huge on the scene and had everyone wanting a remix. He was the super producer of his era. I guess you didn't know that. His shyt was hot on the streets because hip hop was still predominantly street in the early 90s, especially the shyt he was making.
A super producer based off what. What was super? And yes I still currently listen to flesh of my flesh and RR vol 1. FLames

Yeah. This ain't going anywhere. To say Pete Rock doesn't have a classic album, or those marginal at best albums are better, is like saying water isn't wet to me. You're speaking a foreign language to me now basically.

Swizz is hip hop. He was just more lowest common denominator type shyt. He just wanted to make hits/money. He never made a classic album and has few if any actual classic records. Nokia he don't dig in the crates and flip samples. He pulled his old stuff off a keyboard.
So if swizz wants to create his art by sampling a keyboard's sounds,he's wrong. He has to take another's record,or he's less hiphop.? You keep saying swizz never made a classic album. That's debatable. But Pete rock sure has not.
Swizz produced the lion's share of this album which possesses more noteworthy songs than anything pete WILL EVER DO
