Because Millionaires have the money to move away from NYC entirely while the Middle class do not have the money/resources to just uproot themselves. Also have the financial resources to hire high prices Tax Attorneys to avoid paying taxes. Look at the NY Senator in recent interviews, she is begging the Millionaires to come back, they left as soon as the new Mayor was elected. And when there are less and less millionaires to tax, it trickles down to Middle Class citizens who get the brunt of the higher taxes. Subway/Bus fares have already gone up since Mamdani got elected
In the aftermath, Mamdani is now proposing to have the NYC Estate Tax to be lowered to $750,000... which will now effect every single Middle Class resident in NYC
