Taking/Smashing some dude's chick

Agreed, but I wasn't necessarily talking about the exploits of the rappers themselves. Moreso, how the rappers are representing scenarios that seem to be popular amongst black men....maybe moreso than any other group of men. That because they(rappers/singers) are black that somehow "smashing some dude's chick" is laced in the lyrics. And my curiosity as to why that is such a "thing."

Basically, I was using music as a template for a larger discussion. Why is it such a "thing" to smash somebody else's chick? Why aren't dudes bragging about pulling a chick based on their merit instead of piggybacking off the lack of merit of some other dude. On some "I can smash you better than your dude" instead of just getting at the chick based on how fly you are.

It's to the point that you have dudes who only chill with chicks who are in relationships...on some "yea, I take n#ggas chicks."

I'm curious as to why this seems to be such a compliment amongst black men, especially young black men(entertainers and non-entertainers alike). Where did this come from and why is it so pervasive?

I think it depends on your perspective as a listener. When I listen to hip hop I assume the mindstate of the rapper, it might be because I'm a bit of a narcissist which is what drew me to rap in the first place. So when the rapper is saying how much richer he is than his audience or how he can fukk all their bytches, I almost feel like it's a soundtrack for me.

yeah, the vicarious living aspect of it is appealing....but still when you realize that most people's reality is nowhere near what the rapper's reality is

I don't know if I'm the only who notices this, but it seems that this rhetoric is laced throughout hip hop lyrics and seems to have become a fetish in some ways. Like its the thing to do or worthy of props. And it seems to be more popular amongst black men than any other, which correlates to the rhetoric being laced throughout the music.

Not creating this topic from a moral place so much. Moreso, from a "why is this so popular" place. This rhetoric has permeated pop culture to the point that very few male rappers/singers seem to make songs without referencing trying to get at somebody's chick in one way or another.

It has become some sort of badge of honor or coming of age. As if smashing some chick who's already "committed" to someone else is a feather in the cap. Somehow, dudes seem to think that it says more about them "having game" than the chick "being a ho."

Does anyone else notice this in hip hop and R&B? Does anyone else notice brehs seem to fetishize smashing somebody's girlfriend/wife on some "thing to do" kinda level?

It's not that big of a deal. Some nikkas (like me) just fall into it. Our women are drawn to certain things when they aren't receiving them from their man.....There aren't too many men with all of those traits combined ...... and when p*ssy is chasing you.. "you can't run that fast"

Rappers talk about it just to brag; the same way they talk about having more money. We have self hating culture already-- combined that with the fact that poverty makes you act like a fool once you get money.

I don't think so. Certain players in modern hip hop wanna destroy our values... but overall it's not about that. And the average dude just wants women that he's attracted to - regardless of them being wifed up.

But Thats the mainstream of Amerikka in general... so I don't put that all on hip hop. Hip hop still has the underground.

A lot of the stuff we claim (I say a LOT, not ALL) is pushed on us as a people by OTHER people is just us wallowing around in our own filth and shurking responsibility by blaming somebody other than ourselves for wallowing in it.

I feel hat. Most rappers portray a lifestyle they've never lived, never touched and never grew up around. They're the story tellers...not the actual characters in the story. Because if dudes were really making millions in the streets, they wouldn't even have thought about being a rapper when most rappers don't make millions.

That's something I pay attention to whenever I'm out with a chick, especially one I recently met. If I see dudes with the above facial expressions, then I know I'm either on a date with somebody's chick or the neighborhood slut.....both are kinda the same I guess.
