while i hate when the east coast tries to emulate the south(besides when red n meth did city lights), this is the reason rap is the way it is now. they'll hate you whether you try to bring the 90's back, or whether you're trying to sound like something else. people act like they want originality, but then when it comes, they hate that too. i'd just be happy with the 90's back...at least every region was putting out uncut dope:banderas:

yeah its a real tug of war about what the hip hop community wants

the purist want that 90s sound

the fans that financially support the music do not

When people say 90s sound, I think they mean more figuratively than literal...meaning they want that 90s attitude. That devil may care, true school to who you are as an artist, social consciousness, ext, rather than this finger suckin, south biting, molly poppin, industry type of rapper.

Considering hip hop was at its most financially lucrative when NY artists were poppin, your claims that those who "financially support the music" are hostile to the region is a shaky argument. If you havent noticed, outside of a handful of artists, a lot of cats are struggling to make noise, and sell records. Its not like all these coasts are bubbling with successful artists, with NY playing the rear. The artform is clearly in a transitory phase, after the south dumb down.

from my point of view being a southern boy, we watched NY shyt on us decade after decade, and we really couldnt defend it....
cuz the labels and media tried they best to push a stereo-type or arch-type of what a southern was/is and folks all over the nation played and downplayed us as region, and we looked in the mirror and "owned it" no doubt it hurted as a region to be addressed the way they addressed us, it hurted us a region to be viewed the way they viewed us, like damn is the south really the reason hip hop dead.............. but when truth showed itself and revealed the hands of the labels table were turned....
we didnt go to the labels, so the labels could no longer box us in a region............they last straw was Trinidad James.....
still tryna play a image off as a southern stereo-type and it back fired......... dudes down south is just as lyrically equipped as any other region, and im glad NY cant shake the voodoo that we hit them, when u hate something so much, that what u hate then consumes you.......and i think that NYers need to apologize and that curse will be lifted until then Hip Hop will never find its home back in NY.......NY the tables have turned....

I'm talking about the fans that actually pay for the product.

Would you like to start the how many albums have you purchased poll and see the thread flop?

Tell em to support that type of music. Fans need to put their money where their mouth is or shut the fukk up. Point blank period. If you don't buy music, shut up about quality of commercial music.
