I was going to ask this. The black face we know of in American doesn’t look like that so I was unsure if that’s what they were signaling
we have to remember that the idea of "the dark" and "blackness" is an innate fear in human beings because of how vulnerable early human beings would be during the night and in dark environments. even african cultures are "afraid of the dark" and symbols like painting people's faces black to show wrongdoing are a result of that.
but once again, that has nothing to do with us. this isn't some shot at black people.
we must also remember that our idea of race was created by European colonizers after the 16th century to justify their acts against our people. calling us "black" and themselves "white" is one of those creations, associating us with "darkness" and that innate fear was purposeful.
if anything we need to look to disassociate ourselves from the idea of being "black" because letting ourselves get pulled into these conversations, again and again, is a distraction and does nothing for us.
