SMB3 is still one of the best platformers ever made IMO. Sonic 2, Sonic 3+Knuckles, Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Country 2, Mega Man X, and Castlevania IV are the only real competition that I've played.
But real talk, the shoe was the GOAT powerup in that game

Mario world just wasn't as fun...very well made, but the fun factor of 3 was immesurable.What really made the game GOAT in my eyes was how much variety everything had.
Every power had it's use.
Melting ice with fireballs in the ice world
Flying with the rac00n/tanuki suit to reach hidden secrets and shortcuts
Swimming through jet streams into secret areas with the frog suit
Murking unkillable enemies with the hammer bros and tanuki suits
Unlimited starman chains
Unlike Super Mario World, where you could just fly over the whole game with a cape
