Super Mario Bros 3 had me on some emotional roller coasters. Getting that, the hammer suit, and frog suit had you doing everything possible to not get that brush and lose ya powers

man, I feel your pain on that. tanooki suit was only available in like 3 places in the entire game
hammer suit and frog suit were just as rare. of course you could win them in toad's castle if you pick the right chest, but they were still valuable as hell.

if you watch a SMB3 100% speed run (no warps) you'll see some CRAZY techniques to beat levels. check the speed run archives youtube channel...this dude uses the P wing at the flawless fastest times...flying over entire WATER LEVELS saving 3 minutes of time and stuff

not having to mash the jump button to swim everywhere
using a star + frog suit to swim through bodying everything
swimming through jet streams into secret areas full of extra lives and coins
beating the world 8 airships with it
SMB3 is still one of the best platformers ever made IMO. Sonic 2, Sonic 3+Knuckles, Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Country 2, Mega Man X, and Castlevania IV are the only real competition that I've played.
But real talk, the shoe was the GOAT powerup in that game

My favorite platformers ever are SMB3, SMB2, Sonic 1, Tomb Raider [OG...this got dilueded over the years but the original was MINDBLOWING at the time], and DKCHold up, the frog suit was that piff
