Yup. think of all the mainstream black actresses under 40 and not many who get steady/top 3 billing work immediately come to mind without google. zendaya (disney kid), zoe (celebrity daughter), zaza, tenoyah, lashana? alexandra shipp i guess? and most of these are biracial/light skin.

The industry is nasty work. I recall it was cited on here that even Michael B was about to retire from acting before Fruitvalle Station happened because he just wasn't finding steady work. Hell, Danai Gurira (45) is pop culture certified twice over (TWD, BP), yet how often do we see her. It is what it is.

define A-lister then. If A-list for you is only Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Amy Adams, Scarlett Johansson, Viola Davis - that's fine. But you can't knock Taraji as a "BET actress", knowing that label is negative as hell in this case. Come on now.

Taraji should be an A-lister given her resume:

- Been in several renowned films and shows for two decades straight
- Nominated for an Oscar
- Won a Golden Globe
- Nominated for four Emmy's
- Created an outstanding, lasting character in TV culture (whether we liked Empire or not)
And had one of the best sex scenes of all-time in Baby Boy btw
