We have all witnessed the whole "Say something out loud in a conversation with someone you've never, ever searched for and suddenly you see ads for it" phenomenon but there is a deeper level to this that not many speak on.

They don't because its seems a bit weird, terrifying or too out there for them to comprehend. And yet it happens.

Have you ever noticed a very odd but very definite sync between what you were thinking, privately and quietly inside your head, and then the ads or recommendations you were seeing next time you were on the net?

If you have you'll automatically know exactly what I'm talking about as there is a very weird sensation that accompanies this thats like the hairs on the back on your neck standing up but different. Its quite an unsettling feeling and hard to miss even though it only lasts for a moment as most folks don't wish to dwell on it and just push it out of their awareness and dive into another distraction.

Have you ever experienced this? If so I'd like to hear, whether its the "simple" version of speaking with a friend then seeing the sync or the "complex" type where its just a thought. Now you could argue the priming principle is at play so that you spot the recommendation purely because you were thinking of it and if you hadn't and it were still there you wouldn't care. That certainly is one way of thinking about it but not the only way.

Feel free to share anything that relates or popped into your head about this topic as I think we really could uncover something interesting as I feel its simply too widespread for it to be nothing. That and the weird, thinly sliced but silent "nails on a chalkboard" screeching across your nerves for a moment feeling that many I've spoken to have reported as well. Also the poll is anonymous and you can choose multiple options. Please be real.

take it for whats it worth, but I recently worked with a navy woman who said they had the tech to listen in through devices since the 90's and had "alarm" words that would alert them if said aloud

going into paranoid territory, but it aint out f the question for google, amazon, facebook products to have passive listening for data purposes. to sell your data or more precisely market to you

Quite simply these apps and phones are listening. Even tv has listening feature such as Vizio tvs. Then the data is sold like for apps that scan your face or take your pictures.

Your phone listens to you, but there are algorithms that also target ads to you based off what your friends have been looking at.

The triggering actually works the other way

They target you with ads and products and linked products and it shifts the way you think… (this message is brought to you by rent em spoons) you are being influenced more than one way

I don't doubt that. I once left my phone in a spot where nothing but Spanish was being spoken and that was the music and everything else as well. Upon collecting it there were Macarenas all over the place. Nobody used the phone as it was locked but on and I'd never searched for anything like that before nor since. Even search recommendations were ending "...In Spanish".

Your phone listens to you, but there are algorithms that also target ads to you based off what your friends have been looking at.

This is a very interesting point and one of the reasons I never, ever carry a phone. Mine stays at home 99% of the time as they're using a lot of this data to build association profiles IRL and could be used to jam you up if you associate with that element of something goes down around where you've been and you fit the description. Its happened before and, oddly enough, was just like Patrice said:

Except they used the dudes phone to say he was there when it happened and he had to fight the case even though he didn't do a thing.

I 1000% agree with this. I have never once said chess out loud but yesterday I was just thinking how much chess is so much more sophisticated than checkers and this morning saw a chess add.

Thank you for this thread.

How did it feel when it happened? Did you notice the strange sensation I mentioned that is quite unlike anything you've previously felt? Also how long after thinking it did you notice the ad? What is your explanation for it?

Absolutely critical that everyone watches the doc ‘the great hack’

People really think Cambridge analtyics was some isolated incident. Bro they treat personal data like gold. Actually more than gold, literally. The most valuable commodity on earth is ‘data’. Not gold, not oil, but peoples personal data

I say all that to say, it’d be naive to think all this voice activated technology exists but ONLY listens when you say keywords :heh: Of course your phone is listening to you

Obviously but its the thought activated side that intrigues me as around 3 out of 10 people I've spoken to have experienced it which is enough to be significant. Once you have its a very weird feeling, hence the thread to see how the Coli relates or doesn't.

All of this net based tech is military so its dumb to think they want to help the world or play by the rules because all fair etc..

@Complexion

it happens to me very often. It just feels uncomfortable. No physical sensations.

Could you describe the discomfort? Some have said it felt like a tiny slice of the nails on a chalkboard feeling. Others shared it was like they felt on edge and anxious. A few said it generated a paranoid state that made their inner dialogue go crazy with speculation of how it could be and the one that described it best shared "It felt like meeting Deja Vus cousin from another planet".

It's not even like any of this is hidden information. I heard "data is the new gold rush" back in undergrad, shyt had me like word? :lupe:.

When I tell people that shyt, they give me the Jada face. We don't need to microchip you or any of that goofy ass shyt.

You mother fukkers will just give up your information freely. :mjlol: People don't even care anymore.

Data is beautiful :blessed:
