The decrease must be only in certain areas; it's business as usual here and they hire a lot of minorities. Target Corp just royally fukked up trying to garner favor with a racist admin

I got a question for y’all since the folks I ask this question irl don’t have anything beyond “they don’t hate us” but why isn’t the boycott extending to Amazon and Walmart?

Walmart rolled back or ended several DEI efforts in Nov. ‘24. Didn’t renew its 9-figure center for racial equity initiative. Moved away from using DEI specific language while also ending racial equity training and fukkin over a lot of non White suppliers because it prioritized minority suppliers.

Amazon had a memo leaked that called its DEI program “outdated” around the same time Walmart rolled back its initiative and moved towards a more “integrated” model. Took references like “Equity for Black people” off its front facing websites and out of policies and corporate reports.

So what’s so different?

Coke will be in the same boat if they are actually crazy enough to switch all their products to cane sugar. People will love it until they see the inevitable price hike. There is a reason corn syrup is so popular in soda production.
Highly doubtful they are switching the entire line. That’s a major overhaul that would take years. I would imagine they will introduce a specific line of cane sugar soda which they basically already have.

I think it’s perception. None of these companies are different. Target was so visible leveraging DEI that when they pulled back in a visbile way it caused the backlash. Also they are perceived in many ways as non-essential. You aren’t wrong but perfect storm for them to shoulder most of the scorn.

I’m guilty as well to be transparent. I still use Walmart and Amazon but it’s more for essentials and virtually nothing discretionary.

Gotcha. I still go to Target (guilty :hubie:) I’m on board for a boycott but let’s not do this “alright, we are boycotting X this week, then X next week.” shyt got to be confusing.

When the Trayvon verdict and all that occurred, I said I’d never step foot in FL again. But I had to due to some job obligations + I would go in for FSU games. But I did my best to not contribute to the FL economy as much as possible. Stayed on military bases, got my gas on base, stayed in Thomasville or Valdosta the night prior to games or with fam. Still holding true to it. And that’s my thing. If we’re going to do this, let’s not half ass it. Let’s go 100%.

I think part of the Target thing is that it’s being characterized as a boycott but it really started with a lot of people choosing not to shop there before there was a larger call to action. Target had a certain culture that people embraced shopping there as a hobby in a way. I think it became easy for them (myself included) to not visit. A more wider ranging boycott takes more commitment and Infeel that’s tough in these current times.

TYRONE GA!
Target was in trouble pre-DEI, but the DEI was the backbreaker. People expected Target to be mature adults, and have a left-leaning view. By rolling back the DEI, that sent a signal that Target was willing to bend the knee to a Authoritarian instead of being defiant.

It's why COSTCO is making a ton of money now.

Optics matter, and even if Target did re-enable DEI, the genie is out of the bottle.
This.

They made it a black issue by explicitly saying their eliminating black services/products. Couldn't just leave it at DEI like the other companies who pussied out to Trump. They went the extra mile.

I stopped shopping at Walmart .
Went once this year .
Went to target twice for something I needed really fast .
I used to shop there every other week spending a few hundred dollars every time .

Walmart and Amazon never pretended to care , target did .
People would call targets moves to help minorities performative and them doing this proved that .
Conservatives complained about target for years but they weren’t shopping there either way .
Target turned its back on a lot of its customers . Which is why they are losing money .
know your consumer base and don’t piss them off is all I have to say
