We had a 250 year head start to develop ADOS or FBA or whatever but we opted for a pan-Africanist identity when no one else was operating in this manner.

I also didn’t feel the need to brow beat immigrants who identified with their nationality or feel insulted when a Nigerian told me he was Nigerian or an Ethiopian told me he was Ethiopian, or a Ghanaian told me he was Ghanaian.

I knew what that meant and the significance of those statements. It meant “yes I am black, but my history is different than yours and my viewpoints on a whole heap of subjects may differ because of my history”

If that offended you at any point in your life, you need to ask “why” and unpack that.
