So what do you propose? Are black men to wait for black women to step their game up before we do? If so, are you vocalizing your belief that black women are/should be the leaders of the community who set the tone and direction? If so, what makes black women so autonomous in comparison to other groups of women?

Also, are you stating that black men generally make great decisions with the women they date/marry/procreate with?

I have a question though....

All of this started because Jamilah Lemieux posted a quote saying that "One of the most difficult truths for Black people to accept is that you must learn to fear the police in a way that MAY preserve your life".

In what way was she wrong? Cops have killed, beaten, wrongly arrested, and accosted Black people for decades. Clearly they are a threat to Black people.

All she was saying is, tread cautiously and use sound judgement around them and it may save your life.

What she's basically doing is backhandedly blaming the victim for the actions of the perpetrator by insinuating that black people need to be fearful, hold their hats and bow their heads when cops come around. She's basically saying that black people need to act like children because there are stories of cops taking advantage of their positions given to them to protect the white supremacy standard.

Imagine if I said to Jamilah: "One of the most difficult truths for women to accept is that you must learn to fear potential rapists in a a way that MAY preserve your vagina. So, maybe you shouldn't wear that dress and those heels."

She would have a fit because, as a a feminist, she would never be ok with blaming the victim of a rape for the actions of the rapist. But when it comes to black people and cops, she's copping pleas. She's a black feminist, so she's simply being the stop gap and watchdog that she was meant to be.

True enough. Cops have killed off of skin color alone.

But I personally think we as Black people dont flex our bureaucratic, political or legal muscle enough.

We're tax paying citizens just like everyone else. There are means to voice problems you have with the police. Complaints. Letters.

One may say that all of this pointless. One may say "nikka we BLACK. The cacs dont GAF bout us!!!!"...But to me thats just as defeatist as something as being cautious of cops is.

bruh, i'm all for being compliant to the cops. i've been pulled over at least a dozen times, i dont give them any reason to respond with hostility.

with that said, when cops are abusing other black folks. we need a militia thats ready to respond with force.

The wage gap between black men and black women isn't THAT significant if I'm not mistaken and it is the way it is because the few black men that do extremely well tip the scales on black men's favor. But overall, black women dominate the middle. In other words, let's take the medical field as an example, if 100 blacks work in a hospital, you'll find maybe 9 male doctors, 1 female doctor, 70 female nurses, 10 male nurses, 9 male janitors and 1 female janitor. People look at the money and say that men have it better than women but ignore shyt like black men being the most unemployed group.

My mistake.

But my whole crux with my argument is that remaining cautious and peaceful with police gives you a better leg to stand on when you DO speak out against police.

Can police still find some bullshyt to pin on you and try to justify the treatment? Absolutely.

But it looks a lot better when you go to the news, a lawyer, and internal affairs and can say "The police officer slammed me against the car because of a broken tail light and the footage shows that I was calm and complied with every request"

How is this discussion of fear any different from telling women to avoid being raped by covering themselves up and not being reckless at parties? Both trains of thought are sound advice, but if you say one, your lawded and defended, but say the other and your labeled ignorant. Let's just be consistent. Why is one victim blaming and the other sound advice? Not saying this is the case, but how can you blame people for thinking that black feminism is a tool of white supremacy? I read what she says and I think of that Jim Gaffigan joke that goes something like "when you see a bear, you should play dead... Who thought of that? Bears?" I just picture cops laughing like, yea... Be peaceful...

Man I really stay out of shyt like this cause there's no way to win. Most studies in wage gaps ignore the amount of hours put in. Men work on average much longer hours than women do because they traditionally have to go home tend to the children etc. part of the problem with feminism as constructed is that I feel they don't play fair. They want all the benefits but none of the negatives that come with it. Like the numerous jokes about women wanting to be equal in relationships but don't want the responsibility of checking the house for danger in the middle of the night etc.
