It’s like jazz, a lot of jazz musicians hated the term and used other terms. But when you heard the music and they told you what it meant you still understood what it was. Jazz used to be hated because white people used it to market minstrelsy even though Duke Ellington contradicted those depictions, as time went by, jazz history enthusiasts tried to fix up the tradition and it is understood as black American music from black American experience. Even the Pan African-everything-is-African avant- grade nikkas will tell you it is distinctively black American

Its never a problem when the same white ppl they worship take pride in being American but when we do they accuse us of being xenophobic.
