Not caping for Taylor swift. fukk her. Just thinking generally it is kind of messed up that artists have to buy back their own creations but I guess it's not any different from any other corporation where if you create or invent something while employed by them it belongs to them.
For folks up on all the music business shyt how did someone like Prince manage to control his content so well while Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney got their shyt whored out to the highest bidder? What did prince do right ?
Think about that. Lennon and McCartney signed to dikk James around 1962...and McCartney is STILL on the deal. Sure he has some ownership of solo music that came out after the break up, but the most lucrative items in the catalog belong to someone else.
This is what the music industry does. When they signed that deal they were piss poor young dumb kids from Liverpool, one of the shyttiest cities at the time. Nothing has changed...only difference is that in America it's black kids from shytty areas of cities getting fukked.
On the flip side...Taylor's parents are well off. Dad worked at Merril Lynch, mom worked in marketing. When I was in the music industry I remember rumors about them playing a role in that contract turning out shytty for her...but I dunno if it's true. More than likely she signed the best contract she could get, given the vetting her parents likely provided for her. And she still ended up getting fukked before she could do what she likely planned on doing: buy her own catalog.
Artists never win in the music industry. I bet there were execs who popped champagne when Prince died.
