Troubling questions are being raised in Arizona after a female teacher was left alone in a prison classroom full of sex offenders and then was stabbed and sexually assaulted by a convicted rapist.

It happened in January, but the documents and records related to the case were just released. And experts are questioning the procedure the prison used.

The records, as reported by the Associated Press, state that a convicted sex offender lingered in the teacher's classroom after other inmates had left, and then he attacked her. The attacking inmate, identified by prison officials as Jacob Harvey, had just started serving a 30-year sentence for raping a Glendale, Ariz., woman in 2011, AP reported.

The female teacher is recovering.

In response to the attack and the resulting media attention, state prisons spokesman Doug Nick says cameras are now being installed in prison classrooms statewide. But he added that no internal review was launched to determine if there were security flaws or if guards neglected their duties in the specific case, AP noted.

Meanwhile, a retired prison official criticized the security practices that put the woman alone with sex offenders, the AP reported.

Rapists and sex offenders should be kept in chains for the duration of their sentence, putting a woman in a class with them is like putting a chicken in a room full of rabid foxes. Whoever had that bright idea should be fired, and if it's some kind of fukked up liberal 'policy' we need to fire all those involved in making said 'policy' Prisons should be places of punishment and places where people soil themselves at the thought of it this is how you can have situation of less prison time spent in them and don't have the situation with 'prison industrial complex',but it is about money ,so they warehouse mainly men it is a waste of taxpayers money, in my view only a minority of indivduals needs to be locked away for a long length of time or forever. , all should be breaking rocks. education is a reward for law abiding citizens in society.

Castration, flogging, and fast track executions should become the order of the day for evil doers ,as well as stopping the ludicrous positon of jailing drug addicts and those with mental illness. A mix of toughness, and kindness to those who need help rather than warehousing,so mental instutions should be brought back.

Sadly though prison these days is a profitable industry, and death row, inmates spending decades waiting for their fate makes lawyers lots of money,and bringing back mental asylums would cost money.

So you see it is all about money rather than what is best of citizens. This poor lady is a casualty of such a mentality, sex offenders and rapists should have lost any right to be anywhere near a woman, as they cannot be trusted. And in my view male guards should lock up males and vice versa for females.
