Tech advances happen so fast and our legislature is full of old ass crackers literally dying in office. MF’ers that were born before color TV out here writing laws for a world they can’t even recognize anymore. It’s only going to get worse. It’s like people weren’t taking it seriously now we gotta play catch up. The youth mess around with it and now the old heads trying to stop it instead of embrace it and change with the times
Man and it’s non US ai systems that are just as good as chat gpt , and we all have access to it on our devices. In our pockets. Our kids are really going to be growing up in a different world. For better or worse. People don’t understand the monumental progress that has occurred .

Solution is easy.

Handwritten essays. Students must print out and highlight their cited sources.

Another good idea I saw for papers is assign the paper as normal, then on the day of (surprise) require the students to hand write write a two page summary of the ideas in their paper

I'm loving it.

Folks are starting to realize that the emperor is not wearing any clothes.
The educational system has been a sham for decades (if not centuries).

Big Business was sending work to the South, to Mexico, to Indian, to China, using software and robots, extracting money by turning everything into a subscription service, it's no longer product

It's all going to come crashing down.

The powers that be are gonna be like Thurston Howell, but not on a tropical isle, but living in underground silos because of Climate Change.

I work with a lot of schools in my state and the amount of firewall changes I've done to block apps like chatgpt is crazy. I also like to check the firewall logs and see these kids try multiple times to access it. Aint gon work buddy hit the books:russ:

Another way these schools are fighting back is this next year student devices of any kind including phones are banned. This is controversial, but in my opinion, as long as schools ensure life safety(working desk phones, administration having cell phones), which they have to do anyways, I think its good for the teachers and students.

Three parents sent me this with variations of "I get it now..."

...which is both a little gratifying and concerning all at the same time.:pachaha:

Oddly enough this is NIMBY-ism - citizens (and their lawyers) have way too much power over the state.

I hate to recommend Ezra Klein, but this is what Abundance talks about.

Where then does the line get drawn? Because NIMBYism notwithstanding, state overreach - or worse, corporate complicity - isn't really the move either.

Where is the balance?

Where is the balance?

You can only reason with people/reach agreement when you can agree on terms.

IMO, that's over.

We're at the point know where "facts" are open to interpretation.

So the only out is to live in the same places where the people around you agree on what the facts are.

A lot of these tech moguls send their own kids to schools that don't have tech, and the other kids and their parents are trying to be screen free.

So if you wanted to do that in your area, and you don't have a billion lying around, you put together a plan and open a charter school with those values.

I don't mean pull an Umar, but it's something that folks could do, especially when all these Maggots are trying to destroy the public school system with "choice" and vouchers.

If I ever hit it big, best believe I'd open a Nat Turner Elementary, Fannie Lou Hamer Middle School, and Fred Hampton HS and Technical College...

It would not be a public school, it'd be private so I could be selective. :mjpls:
