A female high school special education teacher has been accused of having an affair with a 16-year-old male student over several months.
Brandy Wilborn, 38, was arrested on Friday at Claremont High School, Lt. Mike Ciiszek told The Daily Bulletin.
Wilborn was employed in the school's special education department.
Wilborn's Facebook, which has since been deleted, listed her occupation as a 'paraeducator.'
Police were first alerted of the possible relationship a few months ago but they lacked enough evidence to warrant an arrest.
'Nothing could be proven at that time,' Lt. Ciszek explained.
'But additional information came forward that led us to new evidence and the arrest was made.'
Claremont's High School Principal Brett O'Connor sent a letter to parents on Monday following the teacher's arrest.
'We take very seriously any allegation of inappropriate conduct by adults involving our students,' O’Connor wrote in the letter.
'That is why we are saddened to report that on Friday May 8, the Claremont Police Department removed an instructional aide from Claremont High School and placed her under arrest for alleged sexual misconduct with a male teenage student from our school,' he added.
O'Connor said in the letter he believed the sexual encounters occurred off campus and outside the regular school day.
Wilborn has been placed on administration leave during the investigation and will not be returning to the school.
'The school district immediately placed the employee on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the case and she will not be returning to the school,” the principal wrote.
The Claremont-Courier reports that Wilborn was hired in 2009, the same year Vanessa Tinoco, a cafeteria worker the same school, had an affair with a male student.
Ms. Wilborn posted her $50,000 bail on Friday night.
