Agreed. I wouldn't be stunned if it happened this tournament since this is USAs C- team. 4 of the 5 best players are sitting out and the US is still heavy favorites. International bball is improving rapidly, it's just too spread out. Most countries are still struggling to put together a starting 5 of nba players.

the main thing that international teams got on US team is on-court chemistry. Most of them been playing together for years and competing in FIBA Euro/South America Championships and U-18 and friendly games throughout the year. Because the pool of talent isn't as huge as in the US, they have a stable starting lineup which makes building the chemistry even easier. They're also used to FIBA rules and officiating.

US team gather every other year with basically different team for 14 days or so after very long NBA season/playoffs. It takes time for the players to figure each other out. that thing makes a difference.
