Bill Simmons and Zach Lowe did mock rosters for this team. Bill said he didn’t want anyone over 30 on this team as he wants the new guys to get a shot.
Bill’s team was
Haliburton/Amen/Cason
Ant/Darryn/Kon Knueppel
JDub/Amen/Trey
Flagg/Trey/Paolo
Paolo/Chet/Mobley
Zach’s team was
Haliburton/Cade/Amen
Ant/Book/Donovan
JDub/Flagg/Amen
Tatum/Paolo/Flagg
Chet/Mobley/Paolo
Few notes…Team USA is recruiting Amen already. They’re considering Jarrett Allen for the 5 spot. Doubts Jaren gets called back.
Neither of these squads leave me with any great hope. The lack of bigs could potentially be a major issue.
At the end of the day, only TWO things are going to matter -
1. Continuity - they have to cultivate a squad long before the summer of 2028. They've got to get players to committ to playing together the year before. They can't just count on coming together for a few exhibition games before the Olympics and thinking shyt will click. This is going to be a major obstacle given players won't want to commit to meaningless games a whole year prior, especially during the offseason.
2. They need someone to step up and replace KD's role. Ant seems like the logical choice, at least at this stage, but there's a lot of time between now and then for him to eliminate himself from being a contender for that role.
