Tech companies are facing a crisis "hiring"

I just went back into the workforce for the first time in two years. Been running my own online resale business, but in the effort to grow the business and hit some other goals I decided it was time to find another gig. This is the easiest time I’ve ever had finding a job. Literally only two weeks from the day I decided to start applying until I was hired. Companies were trying to move so fast it shook me up a bit, but made me realize I had all the power now. Had one place that was in office that I didn’t even walk into because I saw too many maskless people going in while waiting on my interview, so I ghosted. Ultimately went with a remote position of course and they were shipping out 2 laptops, keyboards, monitors and even pens and notepads before I even did my drug test. It’s a wild time. Like stated by others this is definitely a great break out time for people new to the tech world.

keep down your path and try to pivot to Healthcare tech, anyone can code, your practical healthcare experience is critical insight into building new tech for the field if that makes sense.

What would be the best route to look for something entry level to boost my resume up? I’m not so worried about the monetary portion at the moment, just I know I need some experience before even looking towards anything high paying.

if you worried about money you wont really last in tech, thats why im saying utilize your current experience and get into management and then do a pivot to an Analyst or Project Manager type role supporting a system that gets used in your field. Your in field experience will make up for your non technical knowledge

Yea I recently took the CSM cert and passed. The junior version of the PMP is CAPM but a lot of PMs tell me that CAPM is a waste and not to do it

I would just work on resume and LinkedIn highlighting any experience. Apply to everything even internships if you really need experience

I'm in the same boat, I'm about to be 35 and have been in healthcare for going on 11 years....all of this money out there in tech with the addition of work from home looking feasible (which is important considering I stay in country ass SC far away from somewhere like Charleston or Greenville)...I've been considering a career switch even though I'm in a master's program working on becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner....

i was a system admin at a hospital and I managed the backend of their EMR. We had a PM on our team and she was also a RN I know she had some certifications but she made money and really didn’t do shyt but we needed her because we ain’t know shyt about icd10 codes or hospital procedures and protocols. We would also send her to the doctors we didn’t want to deal with. She also trained the staff on how to use the emr. I used to do it when she was on vacation shyt was annoying AF but eye candy galore. Long story short there is a path in healthcare tech. I think epic has certifications and they need PMs who know healthcare

It always baffles me when one of these tech threads come to The Coli and we get the "They won't hire black people" cynicism. Cause I know for a fact that when a black woman who can do leetcode medium and hard questions walks in the room, she can name her price. Google, Facebook, etc - all these top tier companies will fall over themselves to hire her cause she can do the leetcode dance and they get to look progressive.

So where's my disconnect? I think I realized that we're just talking two different worlds:
Group A: Software engineer. Data scientist. Data engineer. Cyber security engineer. DevOps. Anyone who can write code
Group B: Network admin. DB admin. IT staff. Project manager. Tech managers. Help desk. Ops. Quality assurance

I'm usually talking from experience about group A (and so is the article), while a lot of people here are talking group B.
And maybe there is more straight up "I don't like this candidate cause she's black" going on in B. That tends to happen when evaluating more soft skills like management. But in A the racism is much more structural: we're not even seeing the candidates interview to begin with.

All that shyt is CAP......there is no job crisis, they do not hire Black people point blank.

When I was hiring for my open positions under me at my old job, the recruiter's would rarely send me Black candidates. When I found Black candidates, I would try to hire them and I would get overrided, so what I did is that I worked with the temp agency that the company had a contract with and hired a brother and paid him more than the others under me.

My manager was mad as shyt and I did not give a fukk, I was planning on leaving the job anyways. I would argue with my manager every week because they wanted to get rid of him and told the brother your not going to stay here, your work her for a couple of months, and soak up the game from me and I'll help you move on to a something else.

He worked there for a couple of months and every week I was arguing with my manager, then he told me that he found another job and is going to start and it is paying way more money and I told him see nikka I told you and then about 2 days later I quit and walked off the job.

I recruit in tech, if I wasn’t happy where I was and just out for the money I would be bringing in an extra $50k but I’m not greedy and I enjoy my current flexibility. This article is 100% what I go through and I do show preference to diverse candidates especially bros, but they are few and far between applying that even remotely qualify unfortunately.

Take the PMP even if you dont have the hours. The chance of you getting audited are slim.

For experience try working for a state or local government a year or two. They don't pay that great but you will get the PM or BA job title you want and a Sr level designation pretty easy. Take that and jump to a consulting company who typically poach people who worked for government. You can get into any MMANG or top tier company after that with consulting experience.

They get eliminated and weeded out before they get a chance to walk in the room and prove their skill. However, the racism is much much higher on the management and admin side.

What kind of work have you done so far? For business analysis or even project management, you could easily flip office/corporate experience to fit one of these, even without the formal job title.

Could be a little tougher with non corporate or warehouse experience, but certainly doable.
