Was working with a client(architect firm) last week dealing with a cyber event did incident response etc. After the dust cleared, I recommended they upgrade some of their licensing to better protect them from the next possible breach(Entra P2, Microsoft Defender, etc). I asked how many users they have, told me the number, and then I started working on an email explaining what I recommended and what they could expect for cost. Called them yesterday to confirm the numbers and the CEO told me 5. I was like 5? The number you gave before was a lot bigger than 5. Nope 5 they're laying off 25 people this coming Friday. Never heard no shyt like that shyts getting ugly
Larger companies are just firing people for cause. You break any rule or policy and you out the door. I've seen more firings in the last few years than in the last ten.

Theres a major company that is HQ where I live and its usually known as stable place to work and good pay. Past few months? Major layoffs. Hell the past two weeks I've seen more people from there posting open to work on linkedin than I ever have.

I've been in IT for almost a decade, next year will be officially 10. I have never seen so many people struggle to find work and we're talking jobs like retail and hospitality. For me at least, I've been applying to see if I can move from my current place. Before I could sent out a few application and get hits. Now? I'm not getting a damn thing and this current job has improved my skills exponentially. I'm talking jobs that have software requirements that match me directly. One of them had the same exact security stack, nothing.
