Had my final interview (presentation and review of work samples from previous jobs) and everything went well and felt good. The recruiter called and said the HM had very positive feedback, and we talked prelim numbers and how an offer would need to be structured. But of course he has a couple of other interviews to finish and even if there was an offer there would be 2-3 days before it could get approved. So now I’m in that nervous limbo, I know I killed every step of the interview process here, but maybe someone else does as well. Ughhh…I could wait a couple of days but the fact that i likely won’t hear until after the weekend just makes the wait so much harder!

@null tell me this isn’t the biggest confirmation that openai is a grift :russ:

Side bar this dropped yesterday:

That’s less than what the big MBB consulting firms charge, so might as well undercut them while giving execs the same generic findings plastered in a deck

And all the big AI companies are unprofitable, they’ve sunk a ton into R&D and have not truly entered the enterprise/B2B market where the $$$ is

First of all, congratulations 🎊 on getting that deep in that interview process and good luck with the next steps.

I love hearing shyt like this.

I’m Kinda down cuz we had some cuts yesterday and I lost 2 people I was cool with.

Low key, I really want to leave my company but I feel the market is crazy and I’m kinda afraid to take the chance on going to another company that may not be healthy and in turn may cut me down the line

📉 Microsoft saved $500M in call-center costs by letting AI handle much of the conversation.

Generative models, software that writes text, now transcribe calls, suggest replies, and close tickets, cutting handle time to seconds.

Shareholders applaud the savings

@rohanpaul_ai
unemployment rates from Federal Reserve Bank of NY

computer engineering ranks 3rd at 7.5%

@SebastianNJ
Makes sense when you overlay this on total jobs held in US

@JeffBohren
If we eliminated or reduced the H1B visas, the tech unemployment rates would drop.

@nyn531
Seeing 4 tech degrees on this list shows how the landscape has changed over the years

It used to be "tech guys" will always have a job

@mpvprb
Unemployment is high for low-talented computer "engineers" who entered the field because they heard that it paid well, not because they had talent and passion for the profession

Lol I just keep imagining a world where people are migrating to third world countries because of jobs and lack of tech advancement.

Or we can leave in world free of borders since technology is so advanced that rebuilding impoverished countries using robots and AI have us live in a world where food, infrastructure and medicine is available to all

That’s how I am….

I keep my ear to the ground, but everything looks like a lateral move in this economy. Even if I can make 15-20k more.

I need like a 30+% increase to justify any type of movement, especially when I’m sitted in a “good” situation.

Most days, I start at 9am and I’m done by 1, 2pm, unless my intellectual curiosity takes me somewhere…..

Now you just making up stuff. It's ok to say the market is trash right now.
:heh:

If you have any sort of talent, market 🔥.

Can easily stay at a FAANG or equivalent company, bounce around multiple FAANG companies, hit high-level finance or consultancy, academia.

If you got in because tech is "hot" or whatever, never developed real knowledge, and are just kind of a chump.

Well, can't tell you what the market is like for them. Don't associate with those types. At all.

Man, I thought no one is getting hired? How are there record numbers of...

Nevermind.

Quickly. Also, when I say the market is hot...

The problems being solved and the tech involved is also better than at any other time.

Ability to choose which amazingly difficult problems you want to study and drill down on.

Don't talk about it, be about it. Show us how easy it is to bounce around in this current job market.

In fact, if you work in tech and have the correct education/training or focus on developing you will find yourself able to analyze some of the toughest problems in a number of industries.

Declvelop knowledge of
Applied mathematics, finance, and economics.

Building models, analyzing large datasets, low signal-to-noise environments.

Translate insight and algorithms into highly efficient programs (AI can help with this).

Engineering skills to build high-performance computing platforms and the networks they run on.

That's all I've done. My shyt is bonafide. Posted proof of everything, where I've been, what good friends (who are talented) are up to, etc.

Bounced from top FAANG to high-level, elite tier finance.

My boy (no degree) quit Google recently to bum it in the global Pacific (posted pics of his setup), being recruited by top shops.

Other boy promoted to M2 at Meta (big deal. Other boy just got promoted to principal at Google (really big deal, unlike Amazon where every other person is a principal).

This is my world, not some click bait bullshyt.

Stop taking shortcuts and win
