I think it's actually very possible. People have shown that they are capable of WFH and many people have no desire to go back to an office. Especially in tech.

With regards to San Francisco, even if you're working from home in the city, just being in the city of San Francisco will help you with networking since the tech community is so thick out there which is huge when you want to job hop.

That makes sense as I always thought it was weird that people were packing up and fleeing big cities since it was obvious the pandemic wasn't going to last forever.
Especially in the bay area where most of these people probably work for big tech like Google, Facebook, etc. So, with that name's on a resume alone they should be able to easily find remote positions

Did a lot of those people who left actually believe that their employers would let them WFH forever which caused them to leave the area?
I don't think the people this article is talking about left for that reason since it seems like most are still WFH. I think they left thinking they would enjoy life more in other areas and realized that even with it's flaws, Cali offers something those other places doesn't.

If you’re in an industry you need to remain tethered to the heartbeat and decision makers of said industry if not you’ll atrophy over time.

That’s like working in Banking for a Wall Street firm then dipping to WFH in ATL. Eventually you miss out on the major happenings within your industry.

This isn’t surprising.

The World, but from BK
People are moving back to NYC. I work for a huge video game company. I got a nick chunk inflation bonus added with my annual raise

Ehhhhhhh, I work for a huge video game company and used to be at Spotify. From my experience these tech companies provide you with everything to get you thru the day (snacks, fruit, full lunches, alcohol) for free in the offices. I didn't think much of it until I started working from home everyday since last year and had to take care of those things. I'm open to 1-2 days a week at the office now, especially for the free AC :yeshrug:.

Man. I had to move to the valley to get a house. But the industry I work in has no sites close to there. I drive from Patterson to Emeryville every day. You get used to it though
