My opinion:
Mike Tyson is an All-Time great (not to mention undersized) and losing to Evander Holyfield or Lennox Lewis, is absolutely NOTHING to be ashamed of and to suggest so is disrespectful to Lewis and Holyfield.
Mike Tyson came up as a teen with severe emotional and mental deficiencies, and at that, was still able to escape the hood and achieve the pinnacle of the sport - winning the Heavyweight championship at the tender age of 20.
You can only fight who is in front of you, it's not Tyson's fault Lewis and Holyfield peaked at different times. Holyfield was honing his skills at the light heavyweight division when Tyson was at his most ferocious.
Also, in the first Holyfield fight, Tyson did NOT give up or get scared, he was competing and simply lost to the better man. When Tyson lost to Douglas, it wasn't because he was scared or wasn't competing. In Fact Tyson was taking some big shots and was still competitive.
This myth that Tyson's losses are due to being scared to compete and folded up, is inaccurate.
The ear biting fiasco was because Tyson was pissed that Mills Lane wasn't checking Holyfield for his headbutts and Tyson didn't want to take another L to Holyfield on his record (due to headbutts)...I don't think fear of Holyfield as a man or boxer, was a contributing factor.
SIDENOTE: People seem to underestimate what three years of being stagnant in prison does to any athlete, much less a professional boxer.
The fact that Tyson was able to go 11 rounds with Holyfield after a 3 and a half year layoff (those tune-ups didn't help), is nothing short of amazing.
