So why do some pros have a problem with how Bryson plays? I stopped following for the last 6 years so I’m not familiar with this cat

Same kind of guys had a problem with how Tiger played....'cism aside. In a lot of ways, he and others in his league off the tee, are playing a different game.

There's also some resistance to his "logical" approach to the game and using science, etc on every decision. They're all doing the same thing, but to a lesser degree, and they like feeling a little superior. It allows the feel like they're playing the "right way."

I've got some demo irons coming in soon.....will I finally make the jump? :lupe: I'm scared to, tbh. Had the same sticks for 20 years

Hogan PTX Pro and Icons. With KBS Tour V xstiff shafts, which I'm actually a little more excited about.

He always pushes the envelope and tries shyt other pro's haven't really attempted before. He put on 50 lbs so he could swing it as fast as possible and now he can just overpower all these courses in a way thats never been done before. He's betting that even if he hits it in the rough, he'll be close enough to get a wedge out of there and be in better shape than the guys hitting 6 iron from the fairway. Thing is though its not like he's spraying it all over the course like Mickelson off the tee, his accuracy with the driver is incredible for how hard he swings.

He's always been a line stepper, he tried putting side-saddle until the USGA told him to cut it out basically. Now he putts with the grip all the way up his forearm and some pros hate that on the low and think it should be banned like the anchoring a few years ago.

I gotta say though, the stories about him drinking 5-6 protein shakes a day are really, really dumb. He's not consuming 300g of protein a day. There's no benefit to that lol

He also said he wants to live to 140 years old, he's just a weirdo overall

Pros don't mind other guys being different, nobody really gave Furyk shyt for his swing or Wolff for his swing either, but Bryson gives too many quotes patting himself on the back and acting like he's totally reimagined the sport bc of the same length irons and science shyt and that rubs others the wrong way

CAn you speak more on this? I saw some folks on reddit making a big deal about it. As a weekend golfer who has tried a bunch of methods, I'm not sure I see the major benefit

They banned the long putters because they allowed players to "anchor" them to their shoulder, belly, etc.

Some, including the governing bodies, felt it was an unnatural advantage. Though I don't believe players who used those putters were demonstrably better.

The rule as written actually explicitly allows holding it against your forearm though.

The benefit of not having a potential breaking wrist on any swing could be beneficial. Most people will roll forward (forward press) before starting their putting motion, delofts and adds a bit of motion before the stroke. This also - breaks the wrist -so to speak. Pressing the shaft against your forearm takes that feel element out of putting. It also can help by not having a breaking wrist. You want as near to a pendulum effect as possible and wrist break inhibits that to a degree. Which is why the anchor putters were banned. Anchoring into the chest/gut allows a perfect pendulum motion (assuming you dont take a deep breath during the stroke lol) and takes all the pressure off of the putter him/herself. Shaky hands, yips, leaving the putter face open/closed are essentially nullified if you can anchor a putter. You still have to read greens and apply proper speed though.

Because he's not a traditionalist in the way he's approaching golf, he's outspoken and he's winning. If he wasn't wasn't winning no one would give a shyt though.

Keep in mind, Tiger likes the guy. So does Phil. They think they can learn from him.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on single length irons? I’m thinking of switching. I struggle with long irons
