it really is. One of the reasons I stopped watching tv was because of the news. And recognizing the biases in it. And every news show is always the same format...or an abbreviation of the same format. With one white male anchor and a black female anchor. Or a black male anchor (a very safe, neutralized, and passive one at that) and a white female anchor.
I always notice to the only black people on the news are shown as victims of crime, in mugshots, and in sports highlight clips. But the idea is to hammer the idea that black skin = criminality/danger.
It's like pavlov and his dogs. If you condition people associate one thing with something they will react to it subconsciously. Like, I see it here in New york especially when I'[m out in the city, I can be minding my own business holding three shopping bags and white women will still clutch their purses when I walk past them...as if I'm just gonna drop all my bags filled with merchandise I purchased right there in the street and steal their bag and run off with it. They are programmed...programmed to associate black skin, or anybody with a shade darker than a brown paper bag as criminals.
