Alot of Republican governors fukked over Obamacare in their respective states and those same Republicans were successfully able to convince the US voters that Obamacare is a failure.

Obamacare has its own problems by itself but its a nice building block toward something better.

My insurance premium for my family just went up damn near $700 per month to $2153! shyt is more than my mortgage. Healthy mid 30s family of four. This shyt ain't right.

Would it be cheaper if you & your wife paid for your own insurance + 1 child each?

What if the children are only on one person’s insurance policy & the wife pays the single insured price (approx $80/mo)?

I’m not sure if this would work, or if you considered this already, but I’m just throwing suggestions out there.

Given your situation, its hard to justify why you should be concerned about Obamacare. But here are some facts and why Obamacare probably isn't to blame why your insurance went up

  • Before ACA, insurance premiums were rising, and in some states at a faster rate before ACA than after. If you live in a state for example that refused to expand medicaid (usually Republican dominated states) you will see your premiums rise faster than states that expand medicaid. A lot of state purposely refused cost-sharing measures with the federal government because of partisan politics. This in turns, hurts the insured people in their state.
  • ACA is not an insurance program. Its a series of acts that were implemented to address issues with the insurance system such as pre-existing conditions which could be something as benign as breaking a bone to providing subsidies to hospitals in rural areas. The "Obamacare" website where people shop for insurance is simply an exchange where private insurers can provide plans. There is no public healthcare option and in fact had it not been for conservative democrats and republicans, this might have been in the original ACA bill and controlled costs as private insurers would have had to compete with a public insurance which would undoubtly lowered costs. Again this was stripped from the bill and could be attributed to its inability to control costs.
  • Many Republicans, since ACA has been implimented have purposely undermined it. From Marco Rubio attacking the "reinsurance" portion of the bill which he knew would drive up premiums and it did to the more recent sabatoge by the Trump administration which has insurers calling the recent spikes the "Trump tax". They are purposesly making it more expensive through sabatoge and then blaming "Obamacare" so they can politically make the public want to scrap it. Its called starving the beast. Op-Ed: How GOP sabotage is creating an unintended 'Trump tax'

In the end, there is no one seriously addressing the issues with the insurance market which you as an everyday person is seeing which is the rising costs of insurance for mostly middle class families who can't get a subsidy and are a victim of political partisanship using your insurance as a tool to hit each other politically.

To be frank, your costs will continue to rise and it won't be "Obamacare"'s fault, but this current administration and government inaction or purposeful sabatoge that will continue to drive up costs. At this point, there will be a breaking point and to be honest, the only real solution is to do what every other first world country has done which is make healthcare a public function. A for profit healthcare insurance system is a sunk cost system. Its broken and needs to be replaced.

Do you purchase private insurance through Obamacare or is your insurance purchased through your employer?

I am not sure how you got to a $2,000/mo premium; sounds like you either make more than $250k a year, have 6 kids or are a trump supporter cause your figure sounds very inflated.

He could run a business/be an independent contractor thus he gets no company benefits

That is why I asked if OP purchases privately and threw out the $250k income figure... cause my hubs is self employed and took home over $200 last year and his premium if purchased privately, would have been around $280/mo. We decided to add him to my plan under my employer to lessen the cost.

It went up because of Republicans are gutting Obamacare not because of Obamacare

Now the ACA isn’t great policy anyways. We need more socialized healthcare. But it’s better than the previous system

This is true to a degree. Unfortunately, both parties are infiltrated by corporate whores. But they are not equal in my opinion. Republicans are definitely worse in this regard but it really is a case of having two shytty choices. Its like choosing between cancer or AIDS. At least you have a hope of defeating cancer, while the other one is pure AIDS.

Not all Democrats are equal either. The public option was almost in ACA had it not been for one motherfukker, Joe Lieberman. Dude with his one vote neutered the entire bill. Imagine for a minute that if there was a public healthcare insurance option everyone could buy into that was not answerable to shareholders or was profit driven which means finding any reason not to payout such as with private insurance. Costs would probably be dramatically dropping and almost all Democrats were on board for this outside of one democrat and all republicans.

So while both parties are pretty shytty, I don't think you can say they are the same :francis:
