It isn’t, but once a player enters the portal, the school is no longer obligated to guarantee their scholarship is open. But it wouldn’t make sense from Tennessee’s side to do this because it would shred the locker room apart. The spring portal window is not close to the December window. It’s hard as hell to have a mid QB just come in with no spring to learn a system, reps with the WRs/TEs, etc. If he had some other high level Power 5 school willing to match his demand, it would be known.
