I actually watched a lot of Tennessee last year because of all the Justin Herbert comparisons he got and that opening game flashed the throwing power and mobility.Oh we're getting way in the weeds here. Lol.
I'm here for it.
Dillon Gabriel ran a variation of this same offense at OU (Jeff Lebby as OC) for 2 yrs AND also at UCF (under Heupel ) prior to that, he was very successful.
I don't think the system is bad and I don't think it causes a lack of development in QBs. Hendon Hooker and the other qb prior to him were really good throwing the football, and super accurate. You can't teach accuracy.
Nico is just not that good. We olayed them last year and lost, but all we heard about prior to the game was Nico this and that. He really didn't do much overall and in the 2nd half thry ran the ball heavily to not expose him
Watching Nico the 2nd half against UNLV over the weekend and he legit looked better than he ever did at Tennessee. The way he stood in the pocket during pressure throwing intermediate-range strikes on big downs for example weren’t there last year.
I’m actually really interested to see how he keeps progressing in Sunseri’s system honestly. Dude seems like a QB guru and studied under Cignetti. Both him and Mendoza have a lot of the same pre-snap system this year.
We’ll see how it goes, but me personally, I think he looks good in a Rams jersey next year and learn behind Stafford. Shortest player on the Rams OL is 6’4 so they use can another tall QB like Nico.
