Not about being lazy. They pretty much control the state and this is another way they keep it, by using something like this where it's based on how loud someone is, not by how reps actually vote. Same reason they don't have the cameras on the reps when this type of vote occurs.

Imma assume you don't know this because you don't vote but their are regularly more than 2 options to choose from when voting. Whether its presidential or local elections. The two party system thrives because the 3rd, 4th and 5th parties are largely ignored or seen a parasites taking the "real parties" votes.

There is no contradiction. Choosing not to participate reinforces a two party system as much as down ballot voting every election. It makes for predictable, guaranteed votes or non-votes. It creates a very small pool of people politicans actually legislate for and those they can afford not to. That is not democracy. Romney broke it down the best.
