Report: Christion Abercrombie still not verbally responsive

Tennessee State linebacker Christion Abercrombie has been fighting for his life at a hospital since he left Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt with a traumatic head injury, and positive updates about his health have been difficult to come by.

According to Brian McLaughlin of HERO Sports, the swelling in Abercrombie’s brain has reduced since he underwent emergency surgery on Saturday. However, he has not been verbally responsive.

Tennessee State released a statement on Sunday evening confirming that Abercrombie remains in critical condition and asking for prayers. Abercrombie’s mother also said her son is “fighting.”

A previous report said Abercrombie showed some “slightly positive” signs from Saturday into Sunday, but his situation obviously remains very serious. The Illinois transfer was given oxygen and taken away on a stretcher after he collapsed while coming to the sideline on Saturday. Both teams were shown gathered in prayer after the game.

The worst part about this injury is that no one knows the exact moment where he got injured, apparently it happened early in the game, he kept playing, then collapsed.

That’s the most dangerous thing. That shyt were you get concussed/a brain injury twice in rapid succession has like a 50% mortality rate.
