Jay passed on this?

Speaking of Jay @ThisWorldAintRight I like the Threat beat on The Black Album, but these were all 9th Wonder beats that 9th Wonder almost used instead.

Jay also passed on this Primo beat, which I think was a good call

Premo's no-hi-hat phase from the mid-late '00s was pretty rough.

:ohhh:

I honestly don't get it. Dude passed on some fire production but it is what it is I guess.

And yeah that's the Quik beat he passed on. Not Quik's best but much better than JMT.

I can't obviously prove this but I have a mutual friend with Just Blaze who said there was an original version of Cold Wind Blows that was doper and knocked harder than what we got. I'm not sure how different it was, but I did like the final beat that we heard. But my homie has good taste, and given that and Em's bad taste and tendency to fukk up beats, I do believe the OG version of Cold Wind Blows was probably better.

Also they did a lot more together, but most of it didn't make the cut. IMO we got 1 dope beat (Cold Wind) and the other 2 weren't great by Just Blaze standards. Although I'm almost embarrassed to admit that the No Love beat is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me.

I could imagine a better version of "Cold Wind Blows" out there. But at that time, Eminem hadn't gotten back into producing yet so I don't know if he had any influence over that.

I thought "Cold Wind Blows" and "Session One" were both bangers. Those are vintage Just Blaze beats. "No Love" was okay, but Eminem and Wayne elevated it.

I'm 100% certain that Alchemist sent him a bunch of beats and Eminem was like :wow: when he heard that one and nothing else.

Dre also had some bad beats on this album. :francis:

I thought "Untitled" was cool. But "Welcome 2 Hell" was better.

Eminem taking shytty beats from highly regarded producers is a tradition. Just Blaze would know:

I've learned now from being a producer and actually being in some studio sessions that a lot of artists are intimidated by truly great and creative beats. They have a comfort level with certain types of beats that they are often afraid to veer from. Especially your local hood artists, if the first bars or hook don't come to them instantly from hearing the beat, they pass. It's frustrating as hell. :dead:

I remember that Nas Flyest Angels debacle, that whole album was like that to me.

I am sure I can think of some, esp from teenage days.

I thought the Kanye and Neptunes beats on "Kiss Of Death" were some of the worst songs on the albums, and this was when they were at the top of their game, commercially and critically.

"Hot Sauce To Go" & whatever that Kanye one was called.

Back in those times, we just read in XXL or online, "wow, ____ has Neptunes on there? A Kanye beat"? and we just knew it was going to be fire. Sometimes tried to force it.

Scott Storch on Kiss of Death too, "U Make Me Wanna"

I swear Nas resents the critique of him not picking beats that people want, and therefore goes out of his way to just keep doing it out of stubbornness or just trying to make a point.

FWIW don't come at me Nas fans. :hubie: I don't think his beat picking is as bad as it's made out to be.
Eminem's beat picking and song making is horrible sometimes. And low key Jay has some trash beats too especially when he makes commercial songs. That Hollywood and Anything off kingdome come are bad. But yes Nas is my goat, but he has some bad beats too. I hate suicide bounce!

Certain beats are not in standard 4/4 timing and forces the artist to think...
Like I can see why nikkas passed on hard knock life...you gotta think outside the box to even rap on that
