Get ready:
Tesla's ground-breaking Solar Roof tiles are available for order in the U.S. starting today. In typical fashion, CEO Elon Musk announced via Twitter that the anticipated tech would be available to order this afternoon with installation happening later this year. Tesla's tiles look like traditional roof tiles but they soak up all that delicious sunlight in order to power your home. According to the company, the tiles will be more affordable than typical roofing and can be paired with their Powerwall battery to power a home completely using solar energy.

Tesla is good at making cars. They're garbage at everything else. Their electricians are trash and don't know how to wire shyt up. They'll be selling this business off soon. Probably to STEM like all their other failed ventures.

I'm sure it some 'the money you will save on energy in the long run' math.

Nah, I was reading an article that stated the tiles on their own merit are cheaper than traditional tiles and they're factoring in breakage during transport/install because the tiles are somewhat more fragile than traditional ones. I'll try to find that article and post it if I have time.

I wish these were released earlier. I just re-did my entire roof and would have loved to throw up these Tesla tiles instead. :mjcry:

Edit: I was wrong - they are way more expensive than traditional options

I didn't read how they'll combat this, but I'd hate to be the person who finances a $125,000 roof over 30 years, only for it to cost a fraction of that a third of the way through the loan.

That said, can't wait to get one one day. Can't wait for Elon the gawd to bury these utility providers and save the earth.

Tesla said the solar tiles cost $42 per square foot to install, making them far more costly than slate, which costs around $17 per square foot, or asphalt, which costs around $5. To mitigate the price shock, Musk said average homes would only need between 30 and 40% of their roof tiles to be solar; the rest would be Tesla's cheaper nonsolar tiles which would blend in with the solar ones.

Tesla said the typical homeowner can expect to pay $21.85 per square foot for a Tesla solar roof. A 1700-square-foot roof in Southern California, with half the roof covered in "active" solar tiles, would cost about $34,300 after a federal tax credit, according to the website calculator. And this is where the fibbing began: the company said its solar roofs would cost between 10 and 15% less than an ordinary new roof plus traditional solar panels. However, according to Jim Petersen, CEO of PetersenDean, which installs about 30,000 new roofs plus solar a year, told Reuters that a 1700-square-foot roof with new solar panels, including the tax credit, would cost about $22,000, well below the Tesla website's estimate.

Tesla also calculates that every roof would generate an estimated $62,100 in electricity over 30 years. Over that time period, Tesla estimates, the homeowner would save $8,500. However, as explained above the breakeven period take places somewhere between 20 and 25 years into the life of the roof, by which point the original buyer is most likely long, long gone, unable to capitalize on the full IRR.

But the punchline is all the roof costs are net of, drumroll, federal tax credits, also known as subsidies to the producer in this case Elon Musk, who has made a living off capitalizing on state and government generosity. Here is the bottom line: every Tesla roof would be eligible for a roughly $15,500 federal tax credit."

Musk the modern pied piper, non stop ducktales that catch the publics imagination. Im surprised he cares about all this shyt, I thought he said the universe was a simulation :jbhmm:

Great post, thanks. I didn't realize Musk was so full of shyt. I just got a 2200 sq ft roof done for under 7k. That price was through a good friend but he said it would be about $12-13k if I went through a legit contractor. These Tesla numbers are outrageous. Pretty disappointed to hear the truth.

yeah its hilarious :lolbron:. heres the full Why Tesla's Solar Roof Is Just Another Giant Taxpayer Gift To Elon Musk | Zero Hedge

nikka just selling pipedreams. I rate his ambition but its just not realistic, or is based on huge government subsidies. what was his thing, get humans on mars in 5 years and be living on mars in 40 years. :usure:

I say it again . Just because you have money it means nothing . It doesn't mean your smart or have better ideas . This is just a guy just living out his dreams. Nothing wrong with that.

Yeah like regular solar panels, I guess. Doesn't it take like a decade to have a complete ROI with them though? And by then they'll be due to replaced? :blackplatomayne:

If it works tho :manny:
