Individually you can get the references and metaphors but what larger theme is he trying to display.
T&Y ties into the stories about The Cool, The Streets and The Game from The Cool Album... that's 1 theme that's displayed throughout the album. Another one would be about life and death... and life continuing on afterwards...

Based off a few listens, I thought the album was about the corruption of the youth? LOL

Lupe made this album for the fans that enjoy deciphering his cryptic shyt and has stated as much, which I think is why it tends to get overly conceptual.

Lupe stans feel entirely different about this album from the people that are objective fans. I guess that makes sense since Lupe stated he made this album for his hardcore fanbase. But because of that I think they tend to overrate the album. Like most I enjoy it, but think its an overly complicated album for no reason.

This album has its ups and down, mostly good though.

That country twanged music mixed with lyrics/flow on "Dots and Lines" ... :wow: ... :blessed:

It is a bit extra complex, but its a cool album ...... fresh music after listening to the same old subject matter on mainstream radio, etc.

Cerebral rap flies in the face of those think that this is a genre for and about exclusively gangsters, pimps, and hos (it has its place) ....but its not the only embodiment of Hip Hop ....

I'm thoughts exactly

I don't like the term "trying too hard"

But, the complex part isn't the problem. The album is not fun.

F&L and The Cool are fun to listen to.

I bought the album and played it straight through and was like:

Like, I don't get it, but, I should

He started this on F&L 2

Dope album, but, I think he went too dark

Complex, Try Hard Lu' can be fun

Dumb It Down, Hurt Me Soul, Daydreaming are all conscious, nicely thought out, fun records

Not to mention the whole concept of The Cool

Lu' isn't fun, anymore
yep

again the album was good no doubting that, but he has made better music being less complex (and even when he was less complex he was still throwing out double and triple entrendres, had concepts, etc), hence my confusion on why this is being hailed as the GOAT album by the stans. back in the day it was more natural, on this album its forced and you dont get no points from me from forcing shyt to uphold the niche

Its a good tape but hasn't really resonated with me either.

For me the last great Lupe songs I liked after enemy of the state is all black everything and double burger with cheese.

In fact I think double burger with cheese is in contention for one of Lupe's best tracks of all time.

Man fukk all that...I don't see what's not to like about it..I mean even MUSICALLY it's dope..and even catchy...it's not just some complex rubik's cube like nikkas makin it and I actually feel bad for cats that can't feel it cause honestly this is the best piece of work I've heard in years...
